as someone who suffers with a bad back AND spends a lot of time at my desk I would like to treat myself to a new chair - I have a sit stand desk which is awesome, but I need more support when sitting down

Cheap ones make me slouch and have no back support - any ideas/recommendations appreciated please

GENERALLY speaking - £ no object

Comfort is the key

cheers

Take a little time to find the right size for you, and enjoy. Best chair I've ever had, and I've had quite a few. It also looks as new as the day I got it after a year. I too suffered from lower back pain after sitting in a not inexpensive "gaming" chair all day. The difference here is night and day.

You will need to try a few to find the one that really works for you.
Generally Herman Miller Aeron or Mirra seem to work for most people.
Plenty of others which may or may not suit your back.
I did use Herman Miller chairs but now have a Hag Tribute which for me is fantastic. I spent a long time trying different chairs before I settled on the Hag.

I've just bought a new Herman Miller Embody from Wellworking (https://www.wellworking.co.uk/chairs-c2/office-c4/herman-miller-embody-chair-create-your-own-p372). I paid £899 for it, and it seems worth every penny.

I have suffered from lower back issues for some time and my previous chair was pretty decent (Steelcase Leap V2) but this is much nicer.

Herman Miller all day long.

Can't put a price on comfort when you're sat down for most of the day.

I’d also recommend including the Humanscale Freedom Headrest on your shortlist - I had one of these for a few years in a previous role and it definitely helped me with upper back issues.

HAG do very good chairs, at lease on a par, or better than Herman Miller, and will last forever.

I bought a second hand Humanscale Freedom (without the headrest) and it’s amazingly comfortable.

KAB chairs are very good, look for "shift chairs" or "24/7 chairs" which are designed for longer term use and (IMO) are far more supportive and comfortable than any office chair.

I also suffer from upper back pain after 30 years of twisting it in all sorts of directions on the golf course.

Currently use a Secret Lab Titan. Was £350 delivered, have been in it on and off since 9am this morning and am still comfortable, back is fine too.

Really don't see the point in spending 3 times as much for a chair without a headrest, considering how comfortable this one is.

I don't find the miller chairs that comfortable, have been on a Steelcase (Please 2 and Leap 2) for years now and rate them really highly. I prefer the Please 2 to the Leap 2.

Can confirm comfy and last a long time. I am sitting in one just now for 12h a day that is used 24/7 by a range of people.

Only issue I have is the armrest mechanism can stick sometimes.

Everyone's different. I've currently got piriformis from my previously comfy Aeron, for instance.

I have a human-scale freedom chair. I never sit in it and thank aghhh...but I don't get out of it with a bad back either, which I tend to with comfy chairs.

Then maybe take an alternative route with an adjustable height desk that allows you to stand, too?
