GT3 brake squeel
Discussion
Hi guys,
So i picked up a 991.2 GT3 the other day - suffice to say I'm absolutely loving it, after literally years of lurking here!
Have a couple of questions though - I'm on steel brakes, but noticed there is a squeel under braking from about 15mph down - is this quite normal or should I be worried theres a stone or something caught in a disc? Not sure how i can check without tyres off and/or on a ramp. It's only under braking and whilst noticeable its not super loud.
What do you guys use for a phone holder in the car? At the moment im wedging in the pop out cup holder wondering if theres a better way.
Thanks!

Completed nearly 8k in my gen1 with steels and the squeal seemed to be something you just had to put up with. Okay when cold but, as you say, approaching a red light then all would know about your approach.
Mobile holder?, sorry, can’t help. I tend to have my little manbag with me
Enjoy it, buddy

they squeal,it's annoying never had it before on any Porsche although I have had it on other cars, usually on ceramics though.
^What franki68 says. You could swap to PCCB or Surface Transform even, both at considerable cost, and though you'd get less brake dust, you won't get rid of low speed squeal. You'll just get a different sort of squeal.
HTH
I suspect it's an unfortunate but unavoidable compromise and biproduct of the pad compound. Under certain conditions I've experienced squeal on just about every recent car I've had, but normally only when running non-original, high operating temperature pads (such as RS29's). It doesn't bother me at all, given the alternative of having quiet pads that are more susceptible to fade.
Porsche brake pads are the best OEM compromise I've come across, but on the GT products fade resistance is obviously favoured more strongly than NVH when the attribute trades are being set.

I'm not too concerned about the noise of the squeal tbh, if i know its normal then that's ok. Just worried im about to wreck a disc or seize a caliper or something.
Seem to recollect the GT3 manual states it is perfectly normal for both steel and ceramic GT3 brakes to squeal when warm.Every Porsche GT I've had has done it.
