I have made a bit of mistake and left my car parked under a large pine tree for the past week. Apart from pine needles everywhere, I have multiple spots of resin all over and wonder the best way to get rid of it? The resin goes soft over the bonnet when hot so I can smear some of it off - but some has set really hard and I am reluctant to apply any strong solvents - nail varnish remover was suggested somewhere. Any ideas?

Maybe could try it - sounds like a lot of hard work!! What about any of these products on Amazon?

I’ve found tar remover to be pretty effective in the past.

A clay bar will work too and isn’t as much effort as it sounds.

A citrus based spray cleaner, something like Gtechniq W5 or one from the household aisle in the supermarket.

Try washing it with really hot soapy water and you’ll find most of it will dissolve. For the rest, WD40 works.

I have tried lots of methods here but nothing is proving really satisfactory. Hot soapy water works to a point but it is difficult to keep it hot enough long enough to melt the resin. Clay doesn't work. T Cut works on tiny drops but only with a lot of rubbing. I haven't tried proprietary tar removers yet but not hopeful. White spirit does nothing. WD40 worked on one small bit but again only through rubbing. The best so far has been Methylated spirit but that takes all the surface polish off. About to try petrol....but any other thoughts?

I parked my brand new 4 month red Ford Capri under a tree for a couple of days.

I tried everything to get the sap off, but nothing worked, it was ingrained in the paint.

I had to have 50% of the car professionally resprayed.

Never again.

Good luck. smile

Thankfully both paint and cleaning technology has moved on and I'd be very surprised if OP needed a respray.
