20k challenge - Something interesting
Discussion
As has become something of a ritual, I have sold off 2 of my more interesting cars due to boredom, and am now in the market for a replacement. And so I turn to the power of PH for inspiration...
I'm looking for something interesting / fast / classic in the £15-20k range that will not depreciate like a bagged salad in the sun.
Parameters:
- Must be for sale in the UK (or available with a bit of a wait)
- Must be interesting, uncommon, fun, something to take to a pub-meet and be in it's element
- Not a big executive barge/floater
- Must not go over-budget, closer the 15k the better
- Must not loose much value in the next 2-3 years with low to average usage, maybe even appreciate a bit
- Must not be a BMW, AUDI or Porsche
- Must not be MASSIVE (I have a small garage in a tight street)
- Not really looking for a project but a repaired Cat N/S (D/C) wouldnt put me off
GO!

I do love how all these low mile 205 GTIs have suddenly appeared...
Thanks team! Some interesting thoughts so far..
- The Merc, I'd not really thought about, worth a look...
- I've just sold a VX220 and have had a Westfeild in the past so will park those for now.
- Griff - Yes a definite contender, I've had 2 chims and an S before.
- I do like hot hatches but really couldn't bring myself to spend tht much on a 205 :-(
- Forrester - Maybe not but am looking at older Imprezas
- cactus....................... err...
- Elise - as above, tempting, but too similar to my recent VX
- Fezzaman, I'm ok with a bit of general upkeep as long as its not big main-dealer stuff (I'm fairly handy myself but don't have a 2/4 post lift)
- Clio 182s! Yes Love them, However having had 6 over the course of the last few years, would not want to spend big money on a Trophy just for some posh shocks - if I was spending big money on a clio I'd want a V6, sadly they have now become unaffordable.

I’ll put a shout in for my car , as I always do , if fun is what your after look no further. Yes it’s got a Yaris badge on the back but its really a lotus Elise in disguise, proper good car to drive quick , great spec , LSD, forged wheels , lovely 6 speed manual, 1.8 supercharged is a joy to use instant throttle response. Only about 90 in the uk so very rare. 21k gets you into one , worth every penny .

I do like these, really do, But depreciation worries me. I'd probably throw that much at a new Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione instead
And I wouldnt get a 2nd look at a pub meet :-(
I'd be asked to park "with the normal cars over there"..
Alfa Brera, this one is a genuine Prodrive model which is rather different from the standard fare and well under your budget:
