Hi,

Has anyone removed the exhaust manifolds from a DB9??

Just want to know how easy or difficult it is? I guess there are removed from under the car and the front pieces of the exhaust pipes need to be removed, but what else?

Reading on the DB9 workshop manual you need to remove the lower suspension arms, anti-roll bar, Starter motor, front subframe, steering column etc which is a major job but I know the manual isn't always right.

Would be nice to know whats actually involved?

Thanks.

Hi Jonny, unfortunately no, my DB9 is an auto.

I'm looking at the viability of removing the exhaust manifolds myself for primary cat removal.

Just would like to know the difficulty level for the removal/refit of the exhaust manifolds.

It’s quite a big job, BR needed my car for 4 days to do it.

Took me about 25 hours of labor to get the body separated/replaced from the drive train so I could get my engine out. I've seen pictures of doing this by supporting the motor and dropping the subframe. Other than the wiring harness, I can't believe it would be easier/faster. If you have a lift, getting the drivetrain separated from the body goes exactly like the manual says. Gives you a chance to renew lots of other bits along the way!

I notice many mentions of the workshop manual in these threads - where's the best place to get a copy?

Message me your email address and I'll send you the manual together with other AM documents for the first gen DB9

Apparently it can be done by cutting the mamifold just below the cat and removing it in thrree bits. you can then weld om flanges to rrjpin it. remove the catalist at the ssme time

I wouldn't be modding the manifolds just taking them out. Just want to know how difficult it is to remove.

But why not get rid off the risk off primary cat ingestion whilst you have them off.

I'll get someone else to remove the cats, not me, that's what I meant.

Paul,

You have got me thinking about the same biggrin. If the cats are removed from the original manifolds and rewelded, do you know if the ECU will need reprogrammed to avoid emission warnings?
