Anyone done this?

There's nice looking Mk6, with a clapped out engine, that wouldn't break the bank for a rebuilt one. Is this a weekend job, or one from hell? Access looks to be the worst point.

Depends how experienced you are and what tools, equipment and room you have.

Normally very messy and oily, ideally wants a good clean before even thinking of starting.

Would be a good weekends work if its your 1st one. I would allow longer.

Just take the front bumper and front panel off and you can get to everything .

^^This, get the front end out of the way and there's loads of room, is the van front or rear wheel drive? However, I would question whether it's worth doing though, a mk6 is an old van now and could be very rusty underneath even if it looks tidy on top. I sold my mk6 earlier in the year for spares as the fuel pump had failed (this is another thing, the pump on the new engine will need coding to your van), the van was tidy otherwise but the mot was looming and I decided that the £500 that a pump was going to cost was better put towards a newer van.

Thanks, all!

That last point about 'coding the fuel pump' has put me right off. No probs with a bit of dirty spannering, but electricks? No thanks!
