Mmm, I need to fit my uprated front pads sometime this week in preparation for Oulton Park on 8th. In preparation I was looking closely at the rear pads, they seem to be quite worn after 10,000 miles.

Has anyone had rear pads wear out before the fronts?(Mine seem to be). What part number do I need for replacement pads from my local brake specialist? (Chiltern Brake in Wycombe). Std brakes btw.

That is extremly odd to have the rears wear out before the front pads! Perhaps, in true TVR ad hoc fashion, the pads are made of totally different composites for both front and rear!

I had rears go at 7500 mile (fronts went before that). Replaced them with Pagid fast road on new discs. They've lasted 5000 miles. Based on this I would recommend sticking with the standard rears.

Are you going to a different track day, or the TVRCC one one the 9th July?

It's the TVRCC one. Have I got the date wrong. Again. Checks docs.... Oh yeah, 9th July.

See you there - I think I'll be in the Cerb rather than the T350 but should still be fun and looking forward to it.

Want to do a UK track day myself in the T350 before I make my trip to the Nurburgring at the end of July. Think I need to join the TVCC, is it worth it?

How to the standard front pads hold up on track? Are standard pads Ferodo DS2500? Or are these just the pads people tend to fit aftermarket as an upgrade? The car was last serviced at Racing Green TVR, any idea what pads they would have fitted (assuming they aren't the standards ones - will have to check the invoice for servicing when I get home)?

I'm used to my heavy SEAT Leon Cupra R on track and I ended up upgrading the pads (already came with 4 pot Brembo callipers as standard but the standard Brembo pads weren't up to the job on circuit) to a set of Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads with the 01 compound (same as used in Clio Cup racing and other racing around the world).
As the T350 is a much lighter car and also RWD I am thinking that these pads may be OTT (although same fitment from what I understand) for it. They also have the drawback of leaving extremely hot brake dust on the wheels which is almost impossible to remove and they tend to be expensive compared to the Ferodo ones (about £160 for the fronts).

I will take a spare set of pads with me to the 'ring as I don't want to be stranded should a pad fail on me (happened to me in the Cupra R with a cheap set of pads). What do people recommend? Does anyone have the exact part number for the Ferodo pads? Where do people tend to get their pads from?

Sorry to sort of hijack this thread.

Cheers, Nick

Don't know the part no. for DS2500s, if I did I would have got some of them. I had some Mintex 1144 specially made (MDB2207).

Std brakes are pretty good, depends on the track. I can't see you cooking the brakes at the 'ring unless you're a ringmeister. Either too much traffic to get a mental run (to cook the brakes) or you'll be sh1t scared of going off (like 99% of the rest of us).

The T350 is a much more sorted track day car than the Leon ever was so I am guessing I will reach my limits (of courage and driving) before I reach the cars limits, especially at the 'ring! As I say though I am hoping to do a Donington Park or maybe Bedford Autodrome (somewhere with less Armco than the 'ring ) track day sometime in July before I go to the 'ring just to see how the car is on track. May join TVRCC to see what they are doing.

I remember when a lot of Leon Cupra R owners bought Mintex pads as they were dirt cheap compared to others including the standard ones (standard ones costing £150 from SEAT and Mintex ones costing £60 or something like that) but they were useless on track. They lost their "lubricant" (sorry don't know technical terms for this) and ended up just scoring the disks. I don't know if this is true for Mintex pads in general or if these were just a very cheap compound.. but it put me off them a bit.

Can someone confirm to me 100% that the pads for the Leon Cupra R are exactly the same fitment as on the T350 / Tamora? If so I can find the part numbers out pretty easily.

Can't confirm they're exactly the same, but like I said, MDB2207 fit. I can take a photo/measure a pad if you like.

I suspect the Mintex the Seat boys had trouble with were std ones. Since this is supposed to be the same fitment, and the brake specialist only listed 'normal' compound pads from Mintex for this fitting. I'll let you know if the 1144 compound is crap in a few weeks

Cheers Targarama!

I've just sent an email with the part number you have given me for the Mintex pads to a mate who sells a lot of brake components for the VAG boys to see if he can confirm the fitment. If they are the same I will be able to get the Ferodo DS2500 pads from him as a lot of the SEAT boys now use these pads as well. I'll let you know how I get on.

Out of interest how much were the Mintex pads if you don't mind me asking?

£85.

I'll probably be interested in the DS2500s one day, they were great on my Chimaera with 285mm on 4 pots.

I'd also be interested in the part numbers, please! Need a set of DS2500's before PH trip to Spa & 'ring in a few weeks; these pads are ideal spec for track & (unusually) road, from experience in other cars IMO

I have done 8026 miles and mine feel ok! What signs should I be looking for on wear as I am off to france next weekend? Or should I just change them!

Use your eyes man! If they feel fine then we can assume the fluid and friction material isn't cooked. I'm referring to the amount of meat left on the backing plates when I say 'worn'.

Spoke today to AP Racing; following is advice from Simon in race Technical Support dept. TVR original equipment for Tamora, T350 etc. are currently Ferodo 3432F compound pads, supplied by AP with the AP calipers to TVR.

Ferodo DS2500 are the next step up recommended by AP for road and track use. Performance from cold is just as good, slightly less pedal pressure, braking effort remains good at higher temps; Simon was at AP's performance test of the DS2500 on an M5 at Bruntingthorpe until the discs glowed red; they still braked just as well! There is always a trade off, which he advises is a fraction more brake dust and noise when used to the full.

The next level, DS3000, is a race pad that takes these attributes further but is much more abrasive, so unlike the other two options would accelerate the wear of the discs.

We should remember that, if you have a warranty, there may be issues with any claim regarding brakes if you change away from standard pads, even if they are from the same manufacturer!

I should have the relevant Ferodo DS2500 part numbers by Monday for standard Tamora and T350 brakes (not RR) for anyone else who needs them

Note; std rear pads definitely same 3432F material as fronts. Necessary, or braking effectiveness would vary f to r as pads warm up.

Cheers for the info! I have been after that information for a while. Good to know what is standard on these cars! I had a feeling the calipers were AP racing items. Good to know. Any one know what the standard brake fluid is? Just normal dot 4?

Please do come back with the part numbers for the other pads, it would be much appreciated. I'm not having much luck trying to find them myself.

In my experience if you want to not have to get your wheels refurbished at about the same intervals as you change your front pads don't go for the full on 'race' pads, especially if you use them as intented (on track) as the dust they give off is just impossible to get off without damaging the painted surface of the wheel! Not nice when you are a bit of a perfectionist like me and like to have spotless wheels even on the inside! (Sad I know).

Cheers!

Circuit Supplies supplies the pads to AP and direct to motorsport users, contact Tim Phillips, 01525 385888. Front caliper is AP Racing with 54mm radius scallop, rear is std. Sierra Cosworth rear. Front pad ref. for DS2500 is FRP3093 HS, rear pad FCP408H £101 front set / £65 rears +VAT.

For techies, H is designation for DS2500, S is scalloped - they cut a scallop in the standard Ferodo backplate with a 6000psi water jet for the AP caliper! They cut them to order, takes 3-4days.

Nick - fluid is silicone dot4, confirmed in manual.

Ok, what do you mean by scalloped? Shaped in someway especially for the AP Racing callipers? Sorry if this is a stupid question…

I think taking a spare set of pads with me to the 'ring will be a little overkill, but at least I know what to get now

I did a slight upgrade of the brake fluid in my Leon to the Castrol Response Super DOT 4, I'm guessing that this would be an upgrade on the T350 as well as standard will be DOT 4 (without the super). I don't know if I fancy bleeding the brakes in the T350 with the reservoir being in the foot well! Anyone done it?
