I've been on furlough since April. All at 80%. Our company was bought by another one in August. I think I was TUPE'd over although have had no confirmation of this by the new owners of our company (our co. name has remained the same).

Other staff returned to work during August and also in September. They're pretty specialised so needed to start working for the business. While my job is also specialised, my work is being done by others at the company who bought us - shared around etc. so I remained on furlough and am now the only one is such as position. All this I believe is okay for them as they govt. is paying most of my salary still. But come the end of October it'll all end and the new job retention scheme comes into effect. My question is: if others are doing my job and they are coping quite adequately, how can I get out of being put on this new scheme if I want to and can I ask to be made redundant as effectively my job doesn't exist (well technically it does, but others are doing it) ...

THere is no way I see they will take me back on 100% salary, working as normal from start of October.

As far as I understand it you have to be working part time (mini 14 hours I think) for you to go on the job retention scheme so it you're not working at all then they either have to take you back full or part time or make you redundant.

I'm sure others will be along soon to tell me if I've got this wrong.

As I understood it, come Nov, you have to be paid for a minimum of a third of your contracted hours. I had two days work in Sept form my company - for which I was paid 100% (even though what I did in this work was not what my actual job is - but it was linked). In October I have just been told I am going to be on furlough for three days a week and working for two (although I cannot see what I will be doing for those two - not my usual job I suspect).

The obvious answer is that you need to have this discussion with them.

Given all you've said they may well be glad of your redundancy suggestion.
