Hello everyone,

I'm just after a bit of advice on buying a previously imported car.

I've been on the hunt for a MK7 Golf R, and one has come up with the exact spec I'm after and in near perfect condition. The only downside is, It's been imported.

It's from a reputable dealer and they have very good reviews. When I briefly spoke to them about the car, They said It was owned by a Army Sergeant and was used in Europe by him and then imported to the UK but they do not have any paperwork for when the car was abroad.

It's on a 14 plate but was registered in the UK February 2016 and has been MOT'd here since then too.

Should I stay away?
What are the downsides to imported cars?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

There are literally 1 billion Golf R's in the UK. Why'd you buy one that isn't just a standard UK car? I'd not have a problem, but I'd worry about selling it and limiting my market.

This.

look for a different one. It will be harder to sell and you are on a car forum asking so you know cars.. Joe public wont have any idea and just not go near it.

Thanks for the replies.

I understand what you're saying. It's just I'm really fussy with the spec I want and I've been on the hunt for over a year, guess I'm just getting a little inpatient.

Being harder to sell doesn't really bother me that much because unless I need to sell for financial reasons then I probably wold never want to sell it.

Thanks once again.
