I had an 2012 S4 avant. Great car and would have liked the RS4, however....
the S4 got stolen from outside my house (affluent residential area) so I decided not to replace with another S4/RS4.
Got a C63 instead 2015 w2015 saloon. And its bloody brilliant. My children no longer need pushchairs so an estate wasn’t essential although would have been nice. But I needed to get that v8. I tried to get a test drive on a 2015 M3 but my 2 local dealers didn’t seem interested despite going into the dealership, and also making calls to arrange a test drive they either didnt return calls or, when they did agree a time and date, only let me drive an M5 which was too big for my needs.
So far not disappointed, a bit thirsty, extended warranty is expensive as are parts prices (quoted over 900 for rear discs and pads) at 17k miles and it needs its third set of rear tyres.
I have a small car for shorter journeys which keeps the running costs down on this one.

I have exactly the same dilemma at the moment. I’m trying to decide between M3, M4, & C63.
The C63 appeals for sheer V8 drama & madness, but the M cars also appeal for their precise handling and all-round ability.
Currently leaning towards M4 cabrio so the whole family can enjoy going topless. I’ll probably change my mind (again) tomorrow though.

By no means your average family wagon.But a very quick, refined comfortable family wagon. Definitely one to consider. The GTS is available as a bit of alternative for a little under £40k if you were willing to stretch your budget.
If style and speed is something you are after and you have that v8 itch to scratch. You could do worse than the Panemera.

Just a few different options that are sport orientated rather than sports car. But then family and sport is often a compromise when it comes to cars.

You can also purchase the Merc warranty if you buy the car elsewhere, but it won't be cheap, and personally I don't think it would be worth it.

I run mine as the family car, and its been fantastic, and so far very reliable. I had wanted an M3 for years, but the C63 seemed to tick more boxes for me when push came to shove.
Mercedes Newcastle have an online eBay shop and parts can be bought there significantly cheaper than most places.
At the moment I still have my car serviced at Mercedes, but if I ever need work done to it, id source parts online and have an independent do the work.
As an example Merc wanted about £900 quid to change the front disks and pads (non ppp). I did it myself sourcing parts online for about £250 quid if memory serves me right.

£35k should get you into a car from an MB dealer (it did for me almost 2 yrs ago). Might not be an ‘s’ version but I don’t feel like i’m losing out.
As an aside, I have a 993 that is kept in storage. When I had the S4 the performance was pretty similar but the 993 much more involving and probably a touch slower. The 993 also has character, noise, feel and the smell of petrol/oil.
Now I find that, as the C63 has character, especially the sound, it has taken the shine off the 993 somewhat.
