The Tesla is faster and goes 90miles further! Wow. That's quite a difference.

I wonder how much of this range disparity is associated with the difference in aerodynamic efficency between the Polestar and the Model 3? It would be interesting to see the energy consumption of the two vehicles at a variety of road speeds.

To my untrained eye, the Polestar is an attractive car, but its large frontal area and sharp angles will do it no favours at higher speeds.

<edited for poor grammar.>

It's taller, has worse drag and is considerably heavier. A good chance that the motors also aren't as efficient.

Still, if range isn't a major concern it does appear a lovely thing, just needs a few months of updates to improve functionality and quite possibly that range into the bargain.

It’s a bit of a game as to what factor they can apply to EPA ratings and whether tested or submitted data.

I wouldn’t take it as gospel data.

The 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S, was way off from the EPA estimated 203 miles of range in Edmunds’ real-world driving test. Edmunds observed 323 miles. Too many variables like how many drive cycles were used...Tesla use the maximum 5, Porsche only 2......no idea how many were used for Polestar.

As mentioned elsewhere, the Taycan didn’t do well on the EPA tests but real world figures are much higher. I suspect the Polestar is similar, real world will be fine.

And Tesla’s rarely get close to their EPA ranges either, so probably not a good idea to use that.

Not the Polestar, but engineering explained on YouTube has a good video on how the mileages disparity can occur, it’s interesting viewing . Taycan vs Tesla, if memory serves

Bjorn got 305km (189 miles) at 120 kph (75 MPH).

That seems about right. With the Model 3 you compromise on it being very low to get the extra efficiency. Take your pick, comfort and good driving position or more range.
