Not interested in the services, got way more stuff to watch than I know what to do with and just pay for the legit services I have. Not holier than thou as have tried it in the past but seems a lot of faff and only worth it for Football which I am not into.

But am interested in how it works and what the TV companies are doing to clamp down. Do they have loads of Sky boxes and grab and rebroadcast the signal ?

Seen a lot of stuff on Facebook, people moaning that these services being blocked. Surely they must have the tech and inclination to shut it down completely ?

Or is it a techy game of whack a Mole and the pirates are always a step ahead ?

It's whackamole while the service sets up a subscriber base I think. Then it goes fully private and it becomes very hard for the TV people to get in, access a stream and find out what service and account it's come from. If they do they can block the hardware somehow.

What often happens is a subscriber rebroadcasts a stream publicly which causes a block of the original service, which is then fixed with new hardware. Problem seems to be that the kit required for some channels (BeIn Sports the example I've seen) is expensive,so they don't get reinstated.

If you're in a mature subscription service that's gone private it's pretty cheap and pretty bullet proof at the moment.

I never get how sky and virgin don't block the ip's.
My mate bought one for £80, epg is similar to sky and even says sky.on it, has access to everything.
He cancelled his sky TV and uses this now. So sky are providing him a broadband service to watch there services for free.

I dont understand how people can live with IPTV services, I dont think the actual providers have a massive amount to worry about.

I tried 7 different providers, for 1 month each and the first few days of each was ok then the buffering, lost channels, rescans, etc. began.
The EPGs weren't accurate, time slip was rife, it was just generally lacking overall. The US east and west coast feeds were marginally better but only but a whisker.

Im on a 1gbps FTTH line with very little traffic on it and the Apple TV was cabled to the router rather than wifi.

I went back to sky in the end - esp after the NowTV lack of EPG carry on.

I’ve been using Clearview/Clearstream for about 12 months with hardly any downtime at all.

The smut channels have been a bit flakey but everything else has been fine.

I still have Sky Q and Netflix, I use IPTV as an accessory rather than our main viewing source.

One on a FB group was going on about his "5 Star Rating", I asked if there was an independent rating and reviews organisation for IPTV, he just said ask my customers, hmmm.

Tried it once, I had a cheap zgemma box. Like you say, no idea why people bother, complete fuss. And a lot of money to throw at something you have no guarantee will last.

Not really, it was sarcastic, but not overtly so.

Another one said,

"Quality tv service available. next five members to private message me will each get a free month . We can guarantee you be happy with service. All we ask is if happy. Recommend our service to friends and family. Next five members only. Thank you"

Nearly asked what form the guarantee takes but been enough of a dick.

Bloke at work has one.

Not long after he first had it he had issues. Called the seller who fixed everything remotely and proceeded to tell my mate exactly what he had been watching.....

Erm... I'll give that a miss thanks.... More than anything, they could see when the service wasn't been used and so possibly out the house?
