In 2 days time I am due to sign the finance agreement for a brand new T350T!

Now call me silly if you like, but this is the first time i have spent so much on a car (the max being 21k for my S2k), and I am having huge doses of pre wedding jitters!

I even found myself at Porsche on saturday looking at a new Boxster S with its 2yr/60,000mile service intervals as an alternative!!

I love the T350 for its looks, sound and drive, but am i doing the right thing? Am i stupid for spending all this money on a car which might cost me an arm and a leg to run and will i live in fear of the engine going bang every day!?

What i dont want is to be in a position in a few months time with a car thats gone bang etc etc, and me facing thousands of pounds depreciation that i wont be able to recoup due to huge bills etc

I know i'm rambling, but at this late stage i cannot decide if its real concerns or just jitters!

:(

The one you're looking at is brand new so it will have 3 years to go bang as many times as it likes. Most people will consider a rebuilt engined car a better buy than one that hasn't been.

Do you want people to hate you or sterotype you? Then drive the Porsche. I decided I'm 10 years too young for a Porsche, 20 for an Aston and 30 for a Bentley.

Get one now while they're still legal (I'm being serious, in 10 years time I reckon this kind of adrenaline infusion will be outlawed in the UK).

Or you could listen to all the Jessies on the TT forum who think they've got fast sports cars telling you to get the Porkster.

Kevin, I think most of us went through the same thought process, I certainly did, I felt sick handing over a bankers draft for almost £30K. I still have reservations even now, but only very occasionally (!!!), for the most time (99.9%), nothing gives me more thrill than driving one of the best looking/sounding/performing cars on the road, and it seems everybody you pass likes it too!
If you can afford it comfortably, there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't try it at least once. I assume you'll have a warranty for the first year, if so, just enjoy and see what you think

It'll cost you more money than a Boxster due to higher depreciation and running costs but....................

.......... you should save thousands by not having to buy kitchen roll to mop up the spit when you park it with the roof off.

I know just how you feel. I've just bought a new red rose spec one and was due to pick it up this weekend. Excited and aprehensive at the same time. But this is the way i figure it. - I've always looked at 'em and though 'wow'. I can drive a porsche when i'm old (probably won't though). I like standing out from the crowd and who cares if it goes bang, i have a 3 year warranty!
Anyway, we finally get to see whether these new ones are really any better.
What have you ended up ordering?

You will loose 10k in the first year.

They smell like a canoe (Richard Hammond).

The glue thay are put together with is made from flour and water.

the engines are made from cheese.

The head lights fill up with all sorts of debris.

The dash is to technical for its own good.

The dealers will milk you of every penny you have.

Everybody who does NOT own one will try to get you certified.

You will get a nervous twitch within 2 months of ownership.

The gear lever gator will come unstuck.

It will act like a spoilt child and spit all the optimax back at you.

You will go and drive 10 miles just for a loaf of bread.

You will go and look at it at 10 oclock at night.

NOW SIT BACK AND ENJOY THE RIDE.

And try and wipe that silly grin of your face....

Do you feel stongly that it is a brand new car? Could you not still enjoy the T350T experience, but save alot of cash by buying a 12/18 month old one.

Now that part is sooo true, and thats the part I hate, it really grates me (shoddy dealers charging premium rates for sub standard work is the single most disappointing experience of my TVR ownership), from what I've witnessed, I work damn hard for my dosh, certain dealers don't, be VERY selective on where you take your P&J, paying over £1K for what you think is a decent service isn't usually so,,,,,

My opinion ( for what its worth). You need to bear in mind that I LOVE Porsches.

We went through a similar thing and test drove a 911. It was nice but ............ it was just another car.
Now the TVR ...... that is something special. Yeah we get niggles with it, but it is so easily forgiven because the fun that we have when we are driving it far outweighs them.
I am so glad that we didnt go for the Porsche.

You only live once - GO FOR IT.

Just for kicks prior to buying new T350T last year I tried a 911 Turbo (priced at £104k 2nd hand!!). I can honestly say it was the most disappointing experience I've ever had in a car (driving that is). Comfortable, quality finish (apart from electric seat adjustment which fell off in my hand ), rapid but did not feel it and soooooh totally boring. Test drove Tuscan and T350 the following day. No competition especially given the price differential. Settled on the T350 because of the drop dead gorgeous looks and RC paint (magic). Have had some niggles but who gives a when you're an adrenalin junky.

Worryingly I find myself identifying with that.......

Said when we joined the TVR fraternity that we would never buy a new TVR cos of the niggles.....and here we are with a new TVR and LOVING it......

IMHO the T350 is an excellent all round car - certainly the best car I've ever owned by quite a margin.

Only you will know if you can justify the expense of your pending purchase and still be able to look at yourself in the mirror in the morning after spending that hard earned cash.

If you do go ahead, and you get a car of the quality that seems to be coming out of the factory at the moment, and are prepared for the TVR niggles...........the face in the mirror will be wearing a much bigger grin than before.

Can't wait for our new one comming - visiting the factory next Friday to view it in build.

Welcome to my world lad.

Ive just shelled out £55k on the Saggy and I havent had a day since when I havent thought *doh*. The other side of the coin is that I also thing that motoring in the Uk in 10yrs time will be nothing like what it is now. These sorts of cars it will simply not be possible to enjoy much if at all.

Course in my case I signed up for the Saggy 3hrs after I just signed up for a £1/4m mortgage also

I got very drunk that night!

Nice to see all this support on here. Somehow I don't think you'll find this on the ferrari owners club.

A friend of mine bought a brand new 996 Porsche. He sold it after a year for a brand new exige. It simply is more fun to drive. I drove his 996 and yeah they don't handle like crap anymore but I just felt like such a tosser in it. It only seemed to inspire hatred in passers by. And yeah, he lost plenty of money on it too.

Like you I bought my first tvr - a Sagaris - in April. I was lucky to be given a t350 as a loan car so I know and love them well. I also had a few jitters when it came to handing the cheque over. Having taken such a bath on my ferrari I told myself that buying new was a mug's game. It probably is but at least buying a tvr new gives you a chance to spec it up to your own very particular requirements. This element of customisation is great and makes each one unique. To be fair Porsche offer something similar but it's at a price. A few years ago a fully specced Porsche boxter was over £52k for 260 bhp!!! You can bet that will depreciate. But ask ferrari for a slightly less hideous air bag steering wheel and they laugh at you down the phone. Lotus aren't very interested in going off the options list either.

I looked around for second hand t350's but couldn't find one that was quite the colour combination etc. that I was looking for. So overall I'm glad I bought new and for what it's worth the chance to run in a speed six properly can't be a bad thing.

I will say that despite my girlfriend's reservations of the obvious 'flashiness' of my Sagaris the response from most people out there is overwhelmingly positive. I wasn't really expecting that. Nor was I expecting the great camaraderie thing that goes on between tvr owners, as evident in this thread. It's something I've not experienced with any other make of car except perhaps Caterham. As with motorcycle camaraderie it's something to do with sharing the risk. With a caterham all the owners put up with the hardships for their love of driving. So it is with tvrs when you pass another owner smiling and waving back at you, you'll be one of the few who understands that the pleasure is so worth the pain!

Enjoy!

The pits, you have said it all. I am 12 months in to ownership and its been the greatest 12 months of motoring I have had. The car gets better and better and I have enjoyed this forum and ownership imensely. I have only once had a major issue (immoboliser kicked in) and that was the only time some one called me an idiot (broken down in bus stop), but every other person I have met and complete strangers have always been so friendly and waived and smiled!

Cos ..sometimes Groucho...when for instance you've really looked forward to your first track day and your brand new Sagaris cracks a starter motor after three laps behind the pace car.....you feel a bit of an idiot and probably would get accused of being one for buying a hand built car .........

However, after some general whingeing and moaning (from lil ol me ) it was a fairly easy fix thanks to the help and assistance of Castle TVR and all our TVR friends....and when it was back up and running....
Well same old story....fall in love with it all over again.........what an amazing TVR.

Great to meet you at Coombe Grouchie...and while I'm here I'd like to thanks all the peeps who helped us out moving the Sagaris and for the general help and support that I've only ever experienced with TVR peeps.

Glad to see you got home OK YP. When you do your next track day, leave the bad weather at home with you .
I've got a test drive arranged for this Friday in a Sag, and guess what the forecast is again....yes you guessed it, RAIN.

Good to see you at Combe also.
