I seem to remember the general consensus until recently was that 55" was the smallest you would ever get an OLED TV, but now LG have started to make a 48" OLED Panel and you can get TVs using this from LG and Sony.

Is this the start of a trend, or will we be stuck with a minimum size of 48" for OLED for the foreseeable future? I realise that this is crystal ball time, but I am hoping someone with industry knowledge will be able to comment.

Can't comment if they'll get smaller than they are now based on industry knowledge, but bought one of the new 48" screens for a 2nd room and it's a bloody good screen smile

My opinion on the likelihood of them getting smaller is that they won't. Not unless OLED becomes the default format, prices get cheaper and manufacturers start filling the blanks in the sizes if LED died off. There's various reasons I can think of why that's unlikely to happen. I suspect the market for small TVs is predominantly from those who don't want to spend a lot, so even if someone knocked out (say) a 36" OLED nobody would be prepared to pay £1k for it.

I seem to recall there's a size below which you won't see the benefit of the 4k due to pixel sizes, but might be making that up!

The bezel on the 48" is tiny - it looks way smaller than my 55" plasma despite there not being a massive difference in viewable screen size.

No massive difference apart from the 55" screen having about a third more viewing area.

Indeed - the point I was trying to make is that modern TVs are basically all viewable area and not loads of black space/speakers, which makes even modern 55" screens much 'smaller' physically than ones from 5+ years ago.

There's less than 16cm difference in the total width of the 48" and 55" LG CX screens. My old plasma is 9cm wider than the 55" OLED

The days of TV's being a box with adequate/good speakers attached to a screen size that doesn't dominate a room, has long gone, I realise.

I have asked for recommendations for a 40'' tv elsewhere on here and was amazed that even in 4k resolution, the smallest acceptable size was 43''!!!

In addition to your massive wall hung tv, you are now expected to purchase a separate speaker system to complete the ensemble of cinematic experience!!

Complete bks, but there we are.

The speakers on our plasma are genuinely awful, so have a Yamaha soundbar and sub setup for that

The LG CX 48” actually sounds really good out of the box! The speakers are all built onto the back of the TV. You’d probably be quite happy with those. I have a Sonos Arc, which is an improvement on the internal speakers. My parents have the same Tv without a soundbar and are perfectly happy with it

You can still buy small TVs so I’m not sure I see your point. I can’t see why you’d want 4K on a small TV anyway, unless you’re sitting a foot away, but if so, get a monitor.

TV speakers have always been crap. I had a Sony 32” CRT TV with NICAM stereo speakers and I still used an amp and speakers which were far better, so nothing has changed in that respect. A separate sound system will always outperform whatever is built in to a TV, and a good sound system is essential for a cinematic experience.

I’m not sure I can see what your issue is.
