Not a car but a road legal buggy..

This make-shift exhaust bracket fitted by the previous owner for this aftermarket exhaust has snapped (hence the cable tie)

I'm wondering what i should replace it with?

The exhaust moves quite a bit when the little 1 pot engine is running and there is nothing else on the exhaust system allowing for movement. If i replace this with a stronger 3mm strip of steel and it doesn't allow for any engine movement, then won't it eventually just crack the next weakest thing such as the exhaust itself? (The manifold has already cracked once at the welds in the past)

The Standard exhaust bolts directly to the Black bracket which is bolted directly to the engine.

Surely the exhaust moves with the engine, in which case just bolt it to a suitable fixing point on the engine via the brackets.

That’s a good point..

In which case, if secured with a stronger strip of metal Bracket then it ‘hopefully’ shouldn’t crack anything else?

Add in a rubber exhaust mount at the bottom (or top) of the hanger.
Something like the one in the top of this pic (block of rubber sandwiched between two metal plates):

Edit: the post suggesting bolt it to the engine rather than the chassis is a good solution.

Good idea securing it to the engine, but what about that massive strut behind the broken one? That appears to be attached to the frame, and is about twice a thick as the broken one (no surprise that it was that one, then).

Revise that too, to attach the silencer to the engine, rubber mounts, or a flexible link in the exhaust pipe?

That’s a thick rubber strap

So the silencer is secured by:
A/ a "thick rubber strap"
and at an attachment two inches away
B/ a rigid(ish) steel strip.

As Mr.Spock might say, "Not logical, Captain." Is the silencer supposed to vibrate on rubber, or to be fixed rigidly? Your DPO got their knickers in a twist of elastic, but it's down to you to untwist it. Can you say/find out how it was attached originally?

After some digging, i've found the diagram for how it's supposed to be as standard

Looks like the original silencer had rubber mounts in those "wings" ?

I'd be tempted to replace the broken mount but have some sort of rubber mount in it.. for example you could use a cotton reel mount ( https://www.minispares.com/image.axd?type=product&... ), have an L shaped bracket bolted to the frame, then bolt the cotton reel to that and then to the mount, behold my amazing drawing skills smile
