Let's say you have £50,000 sat in the bank, doing nothing at all, therefore you decide instead to buy something fun to drive, with the hope that a year or so later you could sell it and recoup most of the original £50,000.

What do you buy?

Add a little more and buy a newish 718 Cayman 4.0GTS. Fun car with (hopefully) strong residuals
Could be cheap motoring for 2-3 years

Think you will be adding a lot more to get a 718 4.0 GTS, about £15k at least, and then you are in 981 GT4 (among others) territory and residuals on them will be better albeit older car.

To add to list:
981 GTS
AMG GT
997 Turbo
996 GT3
Ferrari 360

Faced with the same ‘dilemma’ recently, i managed to get into a manual 997.1 Turbo. I figured this was a positive choice, and i was right.

I'd put it into a house you're much more likely to see all of your money back, now if you don't mind potentially losing some of that 50k then get a car & enjoy it.

Hes proposing taking it back out again after a year or so. ie, running the car for a year, reselling and recovering most or all of the money.

Also, I don't really like the way my house handles on twisty roads.

Just being practical, if you want something for the twisties & you should see most if not all of your money back then buy this:

I don't want to be too practical, it's mostly going to be a smokescreen to evade the wrath of my other half.

A classic Lotus Elan Sprint. Incredible fun to drive and very unlikely to lose anything.

Yes, he’ll just need another 40% on his budget.
