There are often parallels with real life events, however, on balance, they seem to get more wrong than right. Therefore, making hundreds of predictions and getting a couple right doesn't really mean anything to me. Also, most are very broad and can be retrospectively applied to various situations. IMO. Indeed. If taken as a bit of fun I see no harm in it but people use it to claim scripture has foretold something, and by extension everything else in the scripture is also true.
The mental hurdles are impressive. For instance, this passage in the Quran is said by many to predict man-made climate change:
"Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness]."
Oooh, spooky. Not.
If you read the whole Surah this is a rambling bit of prose (par for the course in religious books) that goes on about what would be described in evangelical christianity as "the rapture", and also the standard paras about "God said do what I say, and nice things will happen. But if you don't follow the rules written here and ignore me... ooooh, you'll regret it."
I've also read ramblings about COVID-19 being predicted in the Quran. I went to sleep halfway through but the focus was on
1) how similar "corona" is to some other arabic words
2) mention of the number "19"
These do of course ignore two facts about COVID-19, namely
1) "corona" in this sense is to describe the fact that they are named for their appearance when viewed through an electron microscope.
2) the "19" in COVID-19 refers to the year... in the Islamic calendar it would have been 1441 when the virus was identified.
So in answer to the OPs question... Some people claim COVID-19 was foretold. Those people are very stupid.

One of Nostradamus most famous quatrains foretold of a world ending “great king of terror” coming from the air, and the rise of a ‘yellow race’And this
“In the feeble lists, great calamity through America and Lombardy. The fire in the ship, plague and captivity; Mercury in Sagittarius, Saturn warning”
Which has been interpreted as what’s occurring regarding the pandemic. The ‘Mercury in Sagittarius’ bit did happen in late 2019.
And this
“The dreadful war which prepared in the West, the following year the pestilence will come, so very horrible that young, nor old, nor animal (will survive).”
Which is thought to be a prediction about world war 1 and the Spanish flu pandemic.
The quatrains were deliberately worded, so as to not land him with a heresy / witchcraft conviction, and it’s said only his true heir could accurately decipher them.

I'm sure it's all bibble babble and open to interpretation....
However - back in the early 90's we had a copy in the factory where we worked. It seemed to predict the gulf war pretty well, and the anti christ coming from the far East 'with teeth in his throat' - which was the literal translation

IIRC...he never finished university as it was shut due to an outbreak of the plague.

Actually, no it wasn't. Wasn't uncommon at the time.
His prophecies were written in a style of language very difficult to translate and poetic (creative) in their nature. Scholars have since gone back to the original texts and found that they bear little resemblance to the countless translations they'd previously gone though.
He was also a plagiarist, copying the work others that went before him themselves using a language alien to most even at the time.
An example of literary Chinese Whispers if ever there was one.

Not so much covid but another forum I visit had a dream thread. On the thread someone described every single detail of the Boston bombings in a dream. 2 years before it happened. Probably coincidence, but it was litterly exactly as his dream described. Was never edited and the guy was never online again to this day. Strangest thing iv ever seen.
