Windows 10 multi-screen. Fixing windows in place
Discussion
Morning all,
I have two external monitors hooked up to my laptop whilst working at home. I'd like to keep my to do list and Slack pinned in place on one screen whilst I work on whatever I'm working on on the other two.
Windows 10 lets me do this by dragging the windows in question to the side of the screen I want them on, but they don't stay fixed there when I wake the laptop up after it goes to sleep. Is there any way to do this, whether with Windows 10 natively or via another program?

Sounds like the monitor settings are being overridden by the driver software of the graphics card.
Look in the System Tray - click the ^ arrow in the bottom right corner of the Desktop - and you should find an icon for the software running the video output. It'll be called DisplayLink, or something like that. It's in there that you'll need to set the display preferences to make them stick.

We have a program at work for this, its a free download apparently but for the life of me I can't remember what it's called. Begins with an M.
Will check next time am in the office and let you know. Tbh I close it down on every machine I use because its a f
king pain in the arse
but should do what you want.

I have the same issue, I'm not entirely convinced any of the software solutions suggested will help, but I can't install stuff on my work laptop to test, so I may well be wrong.
The problem is that when you turn the laptop on Windows tries to put things on the screen before it has properly connected and recognised the displays. The closest I've got to a solution is to set a connected display as the Main display, so that at least when it does recognise the monitors it does another re-shuffle to put everything on the new main display, it often manages to then put things back where it should.
It's about the most annoying thing with Windows 10 I reckon. Because not only does it screw your setup up, it also trashes all your Virtual Desktops at the same time, so you have to put things on both the right screen and the right desktop. I'd be more inclined to think a third party software solution would help here.
My personal computer is a cheap thing running three screens across two graphics cards, and I'm using KVM switches to let both devices use the screens. As you can imagine the issue is even worse on my personal PC and I've spent most of lockdown messing with switches and cables to to find an acceptable setup that lets me change screens and devices without triggering the collapse of civilisation.

I've been looking at a similar issue as I don't use my external monitor (connected to a dock) all the time but my brand new ThinkPad autostarts the external monitor on wake-up if the laptop screen (not the whole laptop) goes to sleep. It comes back on in "Extend" mode and won't stay on "PC Screen Only".
If I switch the monitor off it still does it and moves things to the powered off monitor which throws me as I can't see them!
In your case, based on what I've read in the many massive threads in various places on the internet, it seems Windows is trying to make sure you can see something on wake-up so puts what it thinks it should onto the laptop screen.
I've seen lots of solutions suggested, inlcuding Registry hacks, and sometimes people initially say they work only to come back later and say they don't.

In it's day Ultramon was popular for display management & it has a profiles feature where you can quickly store & recall monitor arrangements, but I'm not sure if it also recalls programme window positions. It's free to try though:
