PDF Editor for mac
Discussion
Preview is generally ok for reorganising pdf's and obviously I can save to pdf as well.
However I'm looking for a pdf editor that can
Convert a pdf into a word or excel document
Effectively/simply reduce file sizes
Edit pdfs generally including adding text etc beyond a simple typewriter solution
Decent OCR capability
Simply and uncomplicated
I don't need any clever stuff functions around security and whatnot.
Happy to pay for the right app, but not willing to pay an Adobe subscription for Acrobat.
Does anybody have any recommendations desktop apps that 'just work' please?

I use PDF expert, find it a really useful tool. They might have a free or at least a trial version you could try before you buy.
I've just tied that. It doesn't appear to be able to convert a pdf into say an excel spreadsheet for example which the key feature I need it for.SmileSoftware PDF Pen [free trial, then £75]
Readdle PDF Expert [free trial, then £63]
Foxit PhantomPDF [free trial, then £160]
Wondershare PDFelement 7 [free trail, then £92]
Some of these offer cheaper-looking prices, but then you find out it's an annual subscription, so I've tried to put the perpetual license cost in brackets.
BTW, what you find simple & uncomplicated, others will find frustratingly missing features. I use Acrobat DC...but preferred the layout/tools of the older Acrobat Pro...so DC was a bit of a learning curve for me, even though I was using the older version daily.
I agree that Acrobat is way too expensive for what it is (£180/year for the pro version), but I have it as part of the whole Creative Suite bundle (about £500/year)...and I only use 5 of the 20 apps included (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dimension, Acrobat), although some of those 20 are just cut-down versions of the full-app, or a phone/tablet version.
