986 headlight problem

01 986 S, 70k, all original, halogen lights, no other electrical issues as far as I know. Haven't removed the lights in over a year.

Headlights have been taking an increasing longtime to come on for a week or 2, about 20s this evening. Driving, put my full beams on and all headlights went out instantly. Turned the switch off and on again and the lights returned. Put full beams on again later and same again. Home and idling 10 mins later and all lights worked normally...

Anyone had similar? Seems like a failing relay more likely than the switch?

Any ideas?

Google suggests that the switch is a weak point, I'll pull it when I get the chance and try contact cleaning...

That's what happened to my car. Switch replaced all ok. It's a diy job and youtube videos on how to do it. Got my switch from Porsche about £130, but there is a cheaper VW/audi part you could use, sorry don't know the part number for that.
