Oh no. It's Naga Munchetty to replace Emma Barnett. No-one will ever get a word in and will constantly get snide comments thrown in randomly. AND she will still be on TV mornings Thursday to Saturday.

I really don't like this style of Me Me Me interviewing and the presenters that love the sound of their own voice.

I'll have to find something else to listen to.

I do like Ellis and John on a Friday.

The standard of presenters on R5 is (IMO) getting progressively worse. Laura Whitmore has a Sunday morning show, that she is also a presenter of ‘I’m a Celebrity...’ and ‘Love Island’ tells you all you need to know, it really is woeful stuff. There was also a Sunday AM football based show (The Squad?) which was essentially a group of social media ‘herberts’ arguing about whose club (... top-6 Premier League only of course) was the best for the entire programme. Just dire, puerile rubbish. Talk radio is all about the standard of the presenters and much of R5 used to be an interesting listen, big chunks of it now result in me retuning elsewhere.

I heard the Laura Whitmore atrocity on R5 once and thought it was a children's programme, and a poor one at that. Gave up when someone asked what bands you'd like to see reform and she said Steps.
Foster and Livesey are the only presenters I ever listen to on 5 now, after the defenestration of Danny Baker.

Slightly off topic but I find Nihal Arthanayake in the afternoon slot also likes the sound of his own voice. He takes 5 minutes to ask a question, savouring every word as is he were discussing the meaning of life itself, by which time you lose the will to live, Yesterday he was interviewing a black comedian (didn’t catch name) and they were discussing old TV comedy shows in the 1970’s (eg Spike Milligan as a Pakistani, Jim Davidson as Chalky) and how not funny they where.
Yes, by today’s PC world they appear crass and insensitive but that was then and this is now. They commanded huge mainstream audiences along with the likes of The Black and White Minstrel Show, Goodness Gracious Me, Are you being served, etc.
I can understand why they are dismissed today but it’s disingenuous to say they weren’t funny. Clearly millions of people thought otherwise.

Nihal is a breath of fresh air for me, best presenter on there since the much missed Peter Allen, or more so Mayo, who was replaced with the hideous Richard Bacon who Nihal is a vast improvement over long term his style is more tv presenter as its a more topic based show than a news drove or morning show, but he has some great guests on and seems sincere to me. My take at least.

The sooner they get rid of Campbell in the morning the better the man reeks of his own greatness, and is smugness personified you just KNOW he is the UNION rep!! and man voice Burden too!

I quite like Tony at drive but Anna "mental health" Foster gets on my nerves, it's all she ever wants to talk about in every story. I get it but the flogging becomes tiring.

have to say Ellis and John is totally not 5 live, never has been never will be, switched off after a few minutes, never to return.

Are you thinking of the right programme there?

Sorry, you’re right; Thinking about it, probably not! That was much later! Was it “Curry and Chips” or guesting on “Till Death us do part”.

5Live has been going downhill since Peter Allen & Jane Garvey left. They were one of the greatest double-acts in the history of broadcasting. Victoria Derbyshire & Nicky Campbell made a good team, too, particularly because it was obvious she couldn’t stand him...

Less well known was the evening show presented by Fi Glover & David Croft. Yes, him. It was a superb listen.

In used to listen to R5L constantly. However, the only presenter I like now is Tony Livesey.

Nicky Campbell used to be ok but is far too opinionated now, especially when discussing CV19, he will not hear any other view than we are all going to die.

And don’t get me started on Stephen Nolan.

I'm a Radio 4 listener, and Emma Barnet will be a great improvement on Woman's Hour. I hope!

It's rather depressing how 5 Live has gone....is there anybody left from the original line up? I know it's a cliche to say it's 'dumbed down' - but it really has. And the sports coverage is miles from were it should be; sports correspondents who knew their subject, commentators who could describe the action, and summarisers who were knowledgeable.

I was going to start a new thread but found this one.

I used to quite like Radio 5 live but now find it increasingly hard to listen to. Too many "characters" who arent as funny as they seem to think they are, too much banter and too many presenters who are seemingly focussed on showing empathetic they are. That tool in the afternoon Nihal Nathanaiyaka is the worst - too much empathy and not enough questioning of the many losers he seems to dig up for interview, many of whom seem to looking for victim status and Nihal's the man - he can spot a victim anywhere. And endless crapping on about mental health. He really is a ninny.

Anyone suggest an alternative radio station?

Nihal is comfortably the worst.

He gets overly upset if someone pronounces his name wrong because I guess Sri Lankan names are so easy to decipher and pronounce.

agreed, he's awful, a lot of his guests pander to the bbc diversity and LBGT%^%$ quota, DJs
no-one has heard of [ unless your a DJ ], black hip hoppers, rastafarian basket weavers,
trans-gender poets.

not sure what positives his sri-lankan background brings to the airwaves more than someone from
dudley or penzance.

If you have DAB or the ability to listen from your phone: Times Radio.

I listen to it as an alternative to Radio 4, but I think it's nearer to 5 in style.
