Dando - 20 Year Hunt For a Killer - C5
Discussion
Channel 5 being incapable of making any other type of documentary than true crime or Hitler/Nazism/Holocaust malarkey this is
a thumbs up and a heads up for students of unsolved murder.
However, with a heavy heart , we know this will just review all the facts and come up with the same
solution to Dando's killer as all the other TV shows, i.e. we are no more the wiser as to Jill's killer
after 20 years than we were after 20 days.

They got the man who done it, they just didn’t have the evidence to get it through court.
Nah.So what evidence do you have over and above the detectives who investigated the case? There was a reason Barry George was convicted and his appeals failed twice.
The forensic evidence was then deemed inadmissible and the fantasist with convictions for various assaults against women went free.
All talk about eastern bloc criminal hits are as fantastical as some of George's tinfoil crackpot escapades.

The evidence was pretty feeble anyway. So what evidence do you have over and above the detectives who investigated the case? There was a reason Barry George was convicted and his appeals failed twice.

A tiny spec of gunshot residue that at best proved he had fired a gun at some time or other.
A witness that briefly saw someone looking like BG across the road from Jill Dando's house on the day of the murder and picked BG out at an identity parade months later. Two other witnesses failed to pick him out, in fact I think one picked someone else.
The appeals weren't to decide whether the jury got it right, how they interpret evidence is up to them.
I'm not saying he didn't do it, just that the evidence isn't there.

They even go on record on the BBC documentary saying so.LaurasOtherHalf said:

Get a grip. Jill Dando was professionally assassinated. Barry George was Fulham's village idiot. when it came to guns, he was Fredo in The Godfather. If he had the gun in his pocket, he'd probably blow his own cock off. There isn't a chance in hell he did it, and if he had, he would have been boasting about it to anyone who would listen. So what evidence do you have over and above the detectives who investigated the case? There was a reason Barry George was convicted and his appeals failed twice.
I know one of the detectives who was not on the case, but worked at Hammersmith nick and knew the detectives who were, and they never believed BG was involved. But senior management needed a conviction and the pressure was immense.
Barry George....

Then in the other corner, you have a guy who's posted 30 odd thousand times on a motoring forum who reckons he know's a policeman who knows another policeman that says he didn't do it.

Of course the detective involved in the case is going to say he got the right man, what do you expect him to do?

Privately, none of them thought the had the right man.
Barry George was a complete fantasist. Used to palm himself off as Freddy Mercury's cousin. And he was always desperate to impress, hence the guns and dressing up as an SAS soldier. Had a failed career as a useless stuntman but pretended he was a proper stuntman. The man was educationally subnormal.
Yet we're meant to believe he carried out a highly professional hit on a much loved national TV presenter, disappearing afterwards into the ether and not leaving a shred of evidence, and then managed to keep it quiet?
Just absolutely ridiculous.

I have clients who used to live in Gowan Avenue and George was well known in the local area. They described him as being one bad day away from shouting at the bins round the back of Waitrose. Not a chance he killed her, no way.
