So after this time last year my reliable 320D needed a new clutch and fly wheel, then it august it’s timing chain snapped it now won’t go into reverse!
Any ideas gents? This car has been the most unreliable I’ve ever owned.

It’s a 2011 320D M sport. Full history etc.

I’ve just been told it may be a selector. This car has been bloody terrible

It’s probably not the selector - it will be the synchro for reverse gear - only affected 2011 BMWs so must have been a dodgy batch of synchos.

Replacement gearbox or get that one rebuilt is your only real options - company in Birmingham will put a new synchro in for 650 if u send them the box

Ah the good old GS6-45DZ. The synchro ring will have split, as they do. They're expensive to repair, and expensive to replace with a used one.
I've not done it but you can fit the gearbox, prop and diff from a 318d as long as it's from a stop-start car. It's a bit more labour but the 318d bits are super reliable and worth next to bugger all as a result. The 45DZ was the F10 520d box that BMW decided to standardise.

I’m just going to sell it and start again. Christmas last year the duel mass fly wheel went £1200, then the chain snapped in August, £1500. This is despite me being anal about servicing etc.

I just want rid of it. Very disappointed. Won’t be having another Bmw I don’t think.

WBAC might not even check.............

Geting rid sounds a good plan.

I’d get rid. Coincidentally my brother had one, dealer serviced etc, every year it threw a grand plus bill at him. It was garbage.

I think it’s the only duff car he’s ever owned. He is of your opinion, he’d never have another.

Ebay with a spares and repairs advert might be your best option

Or look at what they go for on auto trader and knock off £2000.

Wbac will come after you if you tried to hide the fact - it’s in their terms and conditions

Don’t rule out another BMW, just sell it when it’s done 90k

No I’d part ex it in. I’d take their part ex price and knock off the cost of the repair. I think that’s fair? I’m sure I’d find a dealer who’d do that. I doubt many people are buying cars at the minute. I’m going to ring a few tomorrow anyway see what they say.

Also try Copart, a salvage company. Prices are absolutely insane at the moment and a 320d is hard currency.

I think I’m just going to part ex it. I’m sure someone can make some money on it. I just really don’t want it anymore after all the work it’s had.
I spoke to a very helpful bloke earlier who is going to speak to his boss and get back to me so we will see how we go
