I maintain an internet site for a Hospice, but something wierd is happening on my shiny new computer!
If I view a page from the C: drive of my home PC (XP), it looks fine. When I upload to the site, some of the pictures within the site (but not all) are not displayed. It seems to be those within a particular sub-folder that go missing.
If I view the site from work via my laptop (W2K), everything's fine again.
Paths within the HTML pages themselves are relative, but I don't see why this makes a difference.
Any ideas anyone? Must be something really obvious, but I just can't spot it.

I'm a relative rookie myself but I think you need to have everything in one folder. At least, that's what I do and it works

You need to upload the folder and it's contents and then everything will work.

edited to add: Is there a url or IP address so we can check it for you?

Watch out if the target Web Server is Linux based as the filenames for the images are cAsE sensitive.

Could be that your laptop has cached versions of the images which is why you see them on that PC.

Thanks for the replies.
I've cleared out the cache from my laptop, and the site still displays OK. All folder have been uploaded to the server as far as I know.
Everything should be in lower case - I've hit the case-sensitive problem before
The site is www.willowwood.info if you want to take a look. Images that "disappear" are the text at the very top of the screen (in the green box), and the picture of the Hospice next to the "Welcome" message.

Hi

Looks like you've go some strang characters in the file path.

Perhaps try changing the back slashes to forward slashes?

Your HTML says: "images\banners\banner_main.jpg"

But the URL to the image is:
www.willowwood.info/images%5Cbanners%5Cbanner_main.jpg

That's the one!

See, it works when you do like the Ex said

www.willowwood.info/images/banners/banner_main.jpg

OK, I've followed the advice and changed the backslashes, but I still get the same problem.
I've noticed that it's only stuff in the /images/banners folder that's affected, so I created a copy of /banners with a different name and pointed my HTML to that - bingo!
I ran out of time to investigate last night, but I'm guessing Norton firewall is filtering out the image links 'cos it thinks they're adverts.....?
