Years ago I had a guards red 968, it was kept outside and became guards pink despite annual buffing, swore I’d never have another red car.....
However, I am now considering a 2016 car in, yep you guessed it, guards red.
Any issues with the modern paint?

Modern paint is a two stage process that now has clearcoat on top of the red pigments that make up the colour.
The clearcoat is formulated with agents to prevent UV rays fading the red pigments beneath and the clearcoat itself yellowing.
So no, there isn't a problem these days.

In the late 1980’s cadmium pigments we’re banned in Europe. The alternative azo reds were not very light stable and went chalky over time. Japan continued to use cadmium for some time after Europe. Red cars in the late 80’s and early 90’s were not good in strong sunlight.

Ciba Geigy pharmaceuticals accidentally discovered DPP chemicals in the early 90’s and passed them to their pigment division. These are the current light stable reds we still use.

Hope this helps.
