Since when has the Mail not been mainstream?
OK, it's mainstream, but tends to be unreliable or sensationalist. It sounds like horrific story but I tend to look for a wider set of reporting first. My point is that there must have been a reason the judge decided on this given the broad sentencing guidelines that they have to hand.

Yes, can we see a link to something unbiased like the Guardian please?
It's not about bias, it's about taking the trouble to report enough detail for a reader to understand what happened. Something you used to expect of the Guardian, The Times and the Telegraph regardless of their political biases. It is getting rare in any area of mainstream journalism. Easier and cheaper not to bother.

Indeed. If you read 4 or 5 sources the truth is probably somewhere in between. The DM is not known as a global "go to" reference for accuracy or impartiality. It does like easy headlines that outrage people (though I stress this may not be the case here)There might be a clue in the picture of the rapist with the toy van. I wonder what his mental age is?
I really see it as irresponsible to report half the story like this, it could have terrible results for his family. And it brings the courts into disrepute. There are always people here and elsewhere frothing about courts being lenient and out of touch and that becomes understandable on a diet of media half stories like this one.

Not really, for me at least, and it still doesn't tell us anything about the sentencing decision. No better than the others.https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/mums-fury-af...
It certainly sounds an aypical sentence so would be interesting to know the full circumstances.
Anyone here is welcome to ask the AG to look a the sentence if they feel it's unduly lenient: https://www.gov.uk/ask-crown-court-sentence-review
I have used the scheme to successfully increase someone's sentence.

Glad you said “used to expect of the Guardian”. I often think The Guardian should be in red and a smaller format these days.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
