BT fttp question
Discussion
We are (on track for now
) due to move into a new build home at the end of October which will have full fibre to the home.
I’ve spoke to BT already who do our existing broadband and who have now confirmed that Openreach are intending to install the ONT device on or around 2nd November - speed up to 900mb available apparently which is a big increase from our current 25 plus Digital Voice for voice calls

Silly question perhaps but I bought a TP link modem/router earlier this year which has been a great piece of kit and much better than the 4 year old BT Homehub. BT are going to also provide their latest SmartHub2 but I’d rather keep using the TP Link - I can’t be arsed changing over the SSID details of all devices in the house
Apart from making sure authentication details are correct, is it simply a case of plugging the Ethernet port of the ONT into the WAN socket on the TP Link, sticking it in wireless router mode (disabling the modem function) and then good to go?

You'll need to configure the TP-link router to use the WAN port using a PPPoE connection and authenticate with the username 'bthomehub@btbroadband.com'.
Also I'm not sure the wireless phone handsets will work with anything other than the BT router, but I could be wrong. Thy are linked to the router using the WPS button, so If your router has a WPS button or mode then it could be worth a try.

Yeah it seems to be more than capable for all current speeds hence not wanting to change it out
Should be fine.As above just make sure the Internet/WAN connection is setup as PPPoE and you'll be good to go.
I recently moved to G-Fast which is still over copper but with a BT supplied modem to the master socket and I have a TP-Link (mine doesn't have a modem) but it's literally like you said just plug it in configure the authentication details and off you go.
Before you go down the path of trying to get your TP-Link to work, plug your new SmartHub2 in, connect to the admin webpages and change the SSID and Password to match your current WiFi network details. Then run a speed test using either speedtest.net or the MyBT mobile app to confirm everything is hunky dory with the fibre speed you're expecting. Then unplug the smarthub2 and fiddle with the TP-Link to your heart's content.
That way you'll always have a known-good working baseline configuration without having to do battle with BT's tech support to figure out why your TP-Link may not be working.....

Good point
However there are known issues with the Gigabit connection and the BT Hub ... you may be better with TP link however you may find some resistance from BT if you are struggling!!https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Fibre-broadband/Fib...
One of many threads ... i'm not sure if they have rolled out the fix yet or not!
