Rough Running

Hi All...

I have three problems that are slightly annoying but livable and was wondering if anyone could shed some light as to what i could do to make it better.

When i start the car i cant move it for a few minutes until it has warmed up and have to hold the revs at about 1.5 - 2 k or it will die out (as if someone was turing down the idle until it stopped), there is a very strong smell of peetrol when this is happening but after that it runs really well.

Sometimes the revs will 'fluctuate' between 1.5 and 2k, it revs in pulses of approx 1 second and will keep doing this until the engine has really warmed up.

Finally if i am stuck in traffic the temp gauge will go up very quickly and once it hits about 90 deg i have to keep the revs up myself otherwise it will just die out...(again not cut out...it will eventuall idle slower and slower until it stops)

Any help will be much appreciated...it going to HHC next month but i want to do most of the work myself to avoid a huge bill!!!

clean stepper motor....change out SNB802 water temp sensor ....???

have cleaned the stepper motor and changed the temp sensor but it was not a lucas one fitted back in its place...have also got new plugs but have not changed leads dizzy cap or rotor yet...
