MrsWoman got me some calamine yesterday, but I'd been resisting using it 'cos I'm a ruftytufty sportcar drivin motorcycle ridin wild geese watchin double hard basterd
But this afternoon the pain's had me
like a 3 year old so I've given in & smothered meself in it. I look like I've survived an explosion in an emulsion factory

And make sure that it's all 100% cured otherwise you could be the recipient of shingles at a later date, NOT pleasant and can literally be blinding!
You can anyway, can't you? I thought shingles was caused by the same virus (varicella zoster, if I remember correctly) that lurks dormant within your cells until something happens to unleash it... So once you've had chickenpox, you're stuck with it, in a manner of speaking.
Yes, you are right. The little buggers zip up your basal root ganglia (part of nervous system), and there lie dormant until triggered off (stress, illness, etc..). They then extend down nerve fibres giving a characteristic blistering rash.
This follows the distribution of the involved nerve, so typically follows a rib, can strike anywhere though including the face.

Went to see the quack this am. Looked fresh out of med school & had to check up if there was any medication I could have, how long I would be contagious etc etc. Not very confidence inspiring & less knowledgeable than the NHS Direct Nurse I spoke to on the phone on Sunday. I even had to push him for a sick chit!
So, still in need of some informed advice (It is Dr. Chim450 I take it?):
>How long will I be contagious after the last spot appears/goes?
>Is the pox spread through contact/proximity or both?
I'm supposed to be an usher at my cousins wedding on the 19th, which I can see being a bit of a problem!
Thanks for replies so far.

Usually infectious for 48hours before and up to 5-7 days after the first spot appears.
>Is the pox spread through contact/proximity or both?
It is spread through the repiratory route, ie. coughing etc...
>I'm supposed to be an usher at my cousins wedding on the 19th, which I can see being a bit of a problem!
You may be ok by then. Shouldn't be infectious at any rate.

No probs.
