The unsilenced centre bypass pipes are all basically the same - just a piece of plain pipe in the right shape so just buy whatever brand you prefer/best price etc.

JCR for the win, not intrusive around town but mighty when opened up.

Got a JCR side silencer delete on my 997 GT3 (funnily enough, the same parts work on a 991 GT3) and it works a treat.

Some good videos on RPM YouTube about the JCR stuff:

We've sold and fitted loads of the Sharkwerks bypass pipes on the 997/991.1 & 991.2 GT3 and they fit and work brilliantly. Most people who buy these from us aren't so fussed about the power gains or weight savings but like most others just want the epic GT3 soundtrack to be delivered across a wider and more licence friendly range.
Sharkwerks, JCR, Milltek - all offer the same sound gains. Some fit better than others, some are made from more exotic materials but they will all offer similar sound improvements.

I’ve got the Sharkwerks bypass fitted and the sound is epic! I have had numerous positive comments from fellow petrol heads and club members. I can’t comment on the others as not heard them in the flesh. YouTube vids do not do the noise justice!

One of the videos above does a good job of explaining the noise/sound changes of all the different components.

Irrespective of which make of exhaust you go for, the re are some universal truths, such as:

  • Side silencer deletes don't make the car too much louder, but shed a huge amount of weight
  • Unsilenced rear exhaust boxes might very well make your car too loud for most track days
  • OPC could choose to be awkward about warranty with non genuine parts

I've done the centre muffler bypass thing (JCR race, and H&S), and for me they were too loud after the novelty had worn off. For quality of sound, and an almost bizarre lack of weight I preferred the JCR, but then it was ~5 times the cost of the H&S!

I'm very curious about trying (valved) side muffler deletes, as I think the weight saving is fantastic, but I'm wary of additional noise, especially as I now have 200 cell cat's, and the noise my car makes is just about spot-on for me with the valves open/disconnected. Does the deletion of the side mufflers allow more engine character to come through? I don't mind loud if it's characterful (discernably layered I guess), but I'm not a fan of just plain noise.

Digga, if you really want to shed some weight from the car, you'll need to ditch all that scaffolding out of the back - I have some perfect storage space if needs-be biggrin

D.no you will have to have a look and listen to my car sometime and you can form your own opinions. One man’s character is another’s noisy droning racket.

Some quality kit on show, all with a function. Put the megaphone tips to mine and like he said it lifts the sound a bit more. Not very often if any, you can buy the same quality as Akrapovic in the titanium world. Incidentally, Porsche replaced one of the side mufflers on my car under warranty at 2.6k, used the same tech for years at dealers, so no need to take the centre delete off.

Sharkwerks muffler bypass on my 991 with standard exhaust tips - I love it - it is loud for sure but still has working valves.

Yes - it would be great to hop form one car to the other. Another thing to look forward to on the far side...perhaps another meet? Besides, I still owe Singh911 lunch.

As do I, plus how do I put a reciprocal price on being given my first ever passenger seat time in a 996 GT3 at Spa?
