Don't read the ST anymore, and must admit JC is no longer on my radar - (post workplace bullying) but if his review is bad, he is in the minority as the praise elsewhere has been generally positive from what I can see.

Yep I believe it's concensus that provides the balanced view......... Like most human beans Clarkson's view is (IMHO) wholly subjective, and his is only one voice amongst many. Sadly I think Clarkson has become a sad caricature of his old self. Shame, I used to like the old TG...........

I like Clarkson, but not as a car reviewer. As a showman or whatever he's fine and funny, but I think this persona of his overtakes the car reviewer in him, if that makes sense.

I am more into people like Harry Metcalfe for proper car advice and leave Jeremy for entertainment.

Agree with EVR....... personally, If I want to get an opinion on a car my first go to is Chris Harris..

Oh bugger, I hope he doesn't drive the DBX and pronounce it rubbish frown

Personally I value Harry Metcalfe's view higher than any other "reviewer". I think he always gives a balanced non emotional opinion.

....but don't forget Clarkson's review of the V12 Vantage on original Top Gear.

I think Clarkson may be the most objective though. He doesn't have to keep manufacturers happy as, let's face it, car journalism is not his main job anymore.

I'm surprised anyone who cares about cars can be bothered to read anything he "writes" anymore...

He was not bad when he was something approaching a journalist at Performance Car but he descended into unwatchable crashing bore and comic with poor comic timing as the Top Gear scriptwriters jumped the shark...

So will any of the potential buyers for DBX give a damn? How many of them will even know who he is? And who reads the Sunday Times anyway?

Rant over!

I read the ST , quite like his column as well.

I think more people will be aware of JC than you think , but saying that nothing any journalist makes comment on would influence my buying decision on any product.

I’m sure I’m not alone.

Typical Clarkson trying to steal TGs thunder.

I read it yesterday and I will happily take it with a pinch of salt. He didn’t actually say anything too scathing. It’s big, it’s expensive, the tech is from MB zzzzzzzz. He just doesn’t like big SUVs from the premium marques. Range Rover is the exception of course. And as noted elsewhere, I doubt that this article will sway anyone who has one on order. It certainly wouldn’t make any difference to me if I had one coming. His classic V12V TG film is still enjoyable now, and what little he said in that piece was worth hearing. Sadly his ramblings nowadays are not up to the same standard, and imho I think he should stick to game shows!

Clarkson’s documentaries are well worth a watch. Most notable are his wartime documentaries on the St. Nazaire raid and the ill-fated PQ17 merchant convoy.

Fair enough guys. I haven’t watched any of his documentaries so I can’t comment, but I can see how he would be passionate and interested in that sort of thing. Perhaps I was being a bit harsh, but I don’t often find anything interesting in his Sunday Times reviews anymore. I have read and watched many reviews of the DBX, and the vast majority have been positive. He doesn’t particularly like the premium SUV genre, so the DBX gets two stars out of five........really?!

Sorry, rant over.

Best Regards

I haven't seen it but I'm sure we all love the reviews that WOW! our favourite cars, and consider a reviewer who criticises our pride and joys as being a bit of a plonker.

Anyway, I find JC an amusing presenter, I take what he has to say about a car with a huge amount of aforementioned salt and I too prefer Harry for objectivity! But there we are... it's 'just' journalism, although the impact on brand can sadly be severe. But I wouldn't have thought Aston buyers would take it that seriously.

I am not an SUV fan by any make, particularly spending so much dosh on a Chelsea tractor, and maybe that is the point?

I must admit I didn't realise he had done those - thanks for bringing that to our attention !

I will try to take a look - you never know my opinion on him may soften slightly.....

If I recall, I think he also wrote and presented a couple of excellent documentaries on I.K Brunel and another telling the history of the Victoria Cross medal. He can be quite interesting and informative when he puts his mind to it.
