Hi All,

Was let go from my job end of July. Long story but had problems there for a while (had some excellent advice and support on here).

I’ve just been through a two stage interview process. Was offered the role, replied to the email accepting and left waiting for the contract. It’s been 8 days now. Called the internal recruitment contact and now goes to voicemail and WhatsApp not delivered and last seen status of a few days ago. Could be innocent and they’re off sick, but is it unreasonable to expect a contract within a week? I appreciate the current situation hence waiting this long but I’m now thinking of applying for other roles as I can’t afford to wait. If I am fortunate enough to land another role and they then catch up I’d have to explain that no contact for a week left me no choice but to accept elsewhere. The start date is meant to 13 days time and is subject to screening.

I’m not one for burning bridges and I wouldn’t normally go looking for another job if I’d accepted something already but this lack of contact doesn’t fill me with confidence and I’ve heard of an opening that I’m suitable for.

Are others who are looking for work finding things moving slowly and I’m just getting nervous over nothing? I’ve applied for a number of roles and even getting a response is difficult. One of the recruiters that I’ve stayed in touch with over the years has been telling me about the high number of applicants, even for jobs that their skillet doesn’t or only vaguely matches so they’re trawling through more CV’s to find what they are looking for. Can’t see that changing for a while.

Thanks.

Bloody awful, I quit my job at the start of lockdown after a disagreement with my brother (family business) and things were fine for the first few months as I home schooled my kids, rode my bike, paddle boarded etc

I've been seriously looking since the beginning of September, I've applied for about 40 positions and got no further than a Skype interview and a single phone call.

I've had my cv professionally written, I've signed up to Glassdoor, CV-Library, Reed, Monster, Neuvoo, Apply Gateway, Core Recruiters, Total Jobs and I've approached a lot of these positions directly rather than using the above companies where possible.

I'm fortunate in that I have considerable savings so I don't need to get a job, but I've always worked hard and I do have bills to pay, but I'm starting to worry now that at the age of 50 I won't be going back to work unless I get a lucky break.

What's annoying is that I've sat on both sides of the recruitment desk and lost count of the number of people that shine in an interview and yet fall at the first hurdle when out in the real world.

I've had less than 10 days off sick since I left school 34 years ago, I'm super reliable, honest, trustworthy and have a multitude of skills, plus I can pick up new skills really quickly.

I’ve also been looking for a new job as I’m now in the last few weeks of my decommissioning contract. Mostly I don’t get any reply. Had one phone and email to say my CV had been selected and phone back asap. I did within the hour and was just greeted with leave a message after the tone. I emailed back. Nothing! No reply, absolutely nothing. I tried different times of the day and a week later I sent my last email saying I was disappointed to be treated as such and would assume the position is no longer available? Still didn’t get a reply. Lasted job I’ve applied for, I had an email this morning saying the position has been put on hold for the foreseeable future.
So not much luck here for a skilled toolmaker with 31years experience in automotive engineering.

Sorry to hear that for both of you. Perhaps I should adjust my expectations as it seems to be the normal behaviour now maybe. I’ve left a voice message and that’s it now. Going to try not getting myself worked up. Remember you’re only a number to an employer.

I guess I’d like to be told. “Sorry we’re not hiring now, or we’ve decided to offer to someone else.” Just to be told and to be honest after chasing me for interviews.

I feel responsible leaving all our bills and payments on my partner. I’ve money out by too, but don’t like to leave to things to the last minute.

If I’m honest I think starting a new job was also a new step in putting my mental health back on a positive track after been signed off with stress abs anxiety caused by my precious situation.

I agree, it's not difficult to give a simple update, good or bad and it's something I've always done as an employer.

Finger's crossed there's a simple explanation for you. thumbup

I'm in the same position as you guys. Having my second redundancy meeting in half an hour where I fully expect to be laid off.

I have an interview lined up for Thursday from a recruiter, but the hard work of looking will start from tomorrow (after I've cleared my office at my old employer).

Fingers crossed for everyone.

I'm coming to the end of an 18 month interim contract, market seems very quiet indeed for interims. I'm in accounting/finance.

I'm hoping there will be loads of maternity roles round the corner after covid shagging back in April!

Birdster, its possible that the internal recruiter has been let go, its happening everywhere and stuff is falling between the cracks, can you ping the person you will be reporting to via LinkedIn and just ask if everything is ok as you're getting no response from the recruitment team.

How did it go? As expected? Perhaps we can use this thread to all vent / help each other if needed?

I did wonder this. Normally I wouldn’t be getting myself in a tizzy but after so many applications and getting somewhere I’m dreading the worst. I tell myself I’m not the only one and every day is a new day. smile

I’ll find the people I interviewed with on LinkedIn. I wasn’t sure if that was good idea this morning but I can’t see what harm it can do. Thanks for the suggestion.

I’ve also put the feelers out for the second role too and explained the situation. If no response to LinkedIn I’ll go all in for the second role.

I am going through the 'your role is at risk' dance and the actual end date, I've been told today, is still a few weeks away.

My company has, truth be told, handled this pretty badly and I'm feeling very demoralised.

None of it is my fault, and I understand the business decision for making my role redundant, but it's a horrible process to go through. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

I’m not sure what to say, or how to help. Sorry to hear it’s been handled so poorly.

I know that I found my situation utter demoralising too and after legal advice from a member here and chatting to my partner I realised that bursting into tears from the stress of the situation was a step too far and not to be sad over a company/role that treated me in such a way.

I hope the next step and following interviews go well for you. I really do. As much as I don’t have a job at the moment I do try and take each day at a time and admit I had a wobble when I started this thread this morning, but all I can do is control my reactions to the best of my ability. I can’t control others.

I’ve even been watching Mr Bean on Amazon to make me laugh and sipping a whiskey. Off to bed soon and tackle tomorrow and look on jobserve etc.
