The Secret Life of Bikers
Discussion
If you're still riding this month, then you might enjoy this YouTube video that's encouraging us to ride year-round: The secret life of bikers
It's excellent to see a County Council making a video to encourage us to keep biking (more thoughtful than an over-simplistic speed kills message).

Having never been to the south of England in the winter what are the road conditions like in winter? Do you get a lot of days when the roads are dry?
Up here in Scotland it's very rare to get a day when the roads dry out. I think it's all the salt that's get used here. It seems to prevent the roads drying and it's always greasy. I used to commute all year but I've been a summer rider for a long time now and don't plan on changing that unless i move somewhere warmer!

I live somewhere East of Gatwick. Back lanes become almost permanent mud-baths from mid-November to end of March, but A roads & the more open B roads do dry out (eventually). Last winter I rode pretty much every weekend, either Saturday or Sunday depending on weather. I only did a couple of trips where by bike was totally caked in sUp here in Scotland it's very rare to get a day when the roads dry out. I think it's all the salt that's get used here. I live south-east. OTOH I don't like traffic so will take the bike for transport as well as fun. Think it is still ok to bike in winter although I don't really make any effort to go out in second half of December and January. That's the worst of the weather and also the least daylight. Joined my local A road for yesterday's morning commute to be greeted with a 2ft wide line of freshly spilled diesel all the way along it - miles of the stuff..

Same here, I went out on Fri for a bimble around but spent more time cleaning the bike after than riding it.

te, major roads OK.
Might manage a couple of runs at weekends but most likely turning from Born-again-Biker to SORN-again-Biker.
Oil filter plugs brake fluid tyres chain and sprockets to do this winter. So might not make a ride next summer at the rate I get through jobs.
I have acquired a makeshift ABBA Skylift ( some ratchet straps and a garage with exposed roof timbers, what could go wrong?)
I also knew there was a reason I carpetted the garage.....
