Looking to getting back into biking, some sort of large adventure type.
Wondering if prices really do fall in the winter months, particularly at dealerships as would prefer some sort of warranty.
Are used prices lower as well as new?

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

I recently asked similar - the answer, combined with Covid and limited new bike production is:

"probably depending upon bike and dealer, but who knows"

I've just sold a bike, within a week, to the first viewer and am looking to replace it, any cheap bikes are being rapidly sold.

I think it's a case of if you see what you want at a good price, buy it - then stop looking biggrin

Used prices are on the high side at moment and everyone is taking advantage of it . I bought a second hand bike from a dealer over a year ago and just sold it privately for 600 more than i bought it for with 2 k extra miles on it . I refused to knock the price down as had others interested. He said ok and the deal was done.
Wished it was always this easy.

This isn't a normal winter - and isn't a normal winter market - for obvious reasons.

I see a lot of bikes for sale privately as distressed sales by people who've lost their jobs - and a fair few people who are now working from home selling their commuter bikes.

But I know a lot of people who historically haven't used their bikes to commute now riding into work - or looking to buy a bike to commute on to avoid public transport and to be less affected by increased congestion.

When I bought a used bike about 2 months ago, there was a lot less stock than normal and I thought prices were high for what you get. Can't see any reason why that will have changed. For new scooters, I wasn't in the market for a scooter, but a Honda salesman who I was chatting to said they were selling scooters as fast as they could get them. Come to think of it, every single bike shop I went to for used bikes said they had less bikes than normal. They can't all be making it up.

I've got a few search alerts set up at the moment and prices seem to be quite wide ranging for stuff like Street Triples, MT07, KTM 790 dukes etc. I've seen a couple sell already but some seem to hang around longer than I'd expected.

My local big retailer (CMC Cannock) has more stock than I've ever seen on their shop floor.

But I think they've closed a couple of their other branches down

Ah, that could explain it...

I popped into Bowden Kawasaki in Chatham last week and it was like an 80s soviet bakery in there. Usually have quite a bit but this time they had hardly any stock and some very random bikes. Guy said they've sold everything they could get hold of and plenty of people waiting. No new bikes until December as the factories all closed, therefore reduced used stuff available.

Had a nice 1000sx but it was very strong money.

I've bought quite a few of my bikes in the winter. Usually dealers are quite quiet and happy to shift stuff. Sometimes I've even got a trade in that has been worth my while.

This is not a usual year and prices appear to have firmed up a lot. The only issue sometimes is getting a test ride in winter if the weather is ste.

I've been keeping an eye on things as I will hopefully be looking to upgrade in the next 2-3 months, prices on auto trader and eBay still seem really strong, starting to see a few price drops on Facebook marketplace but not too significant.

There are a lot of change of circumstances happening, hopefully that will keep the price of my 125 at a good level but I think the next few months will see the economic impact of covid and brexit start really hit.

I bought a new Z1000R last month. Very hard to find as Japanese COVID factory shut downs have drastically reduced supply. It’s seems like new stock is just starting to trickle into showrooms, but agree with other comments that panic sales due to unemployment means that the market is probably in for a very turbulent 2021. That being said, motorcycling has been largely an affluent professional’s hobby for some years, so maybe it is better insulated than we think?
