What’s Required With Downpipe/Sports Cat
Discussion
Hi all, I made a recent post regarding installing a decat and concerns I had with police/vosa checks. Thrilled with the response if you responded and are reading this I am not ignoring you I am unable to reply just yet (being a newbie)
Basically, I am still going stage 2 on my car and initially I was going with a decat but now I think it is wise to go sports cat/high flow downpipe route.
I have an m140i and I’ve been told by bmw it is pre ppf so could one of you knowledgable folk suggest what, if anything I need for stage 2 and sports cat I.e any additional bolt ons or is a sports cat all that’s needed?
Thanks in advance!

I have a M135i, I'm running a BCS 100 cell sports CAT, not far off a decat but still passes MOT, recommend getting one!
CAT and remap is basically all you need, other than suspension and LSD but that's another thread altogether lol
Aftermarket filters are questionable, people say don't bother and some do, personally I have aFe type but doing this all again, I would just put in a panel filter etc.

Cheers mate. I was under some illusion I was going to need another piece of hardware to go with the cat.
Although I want the power it just seems like a right headache having a decat with insurance and potential road stops 🤦🏼♂️
How much if you don’t mind me asking did your cat cost to buy and install?
LSD and suspension I’ll focus on shortly ha.

I did have a decat for a short while, other than the smell, I was paranoid about the legality lolAlthough I want the power it just seems like a right headache having a decat with insurance and potential road stops ???????

I paid I think something like £700 for the sports cat, BCS (Powervalve) used to be a sponsor on BabyBMW (which I would recommend using if you're not already on there). Its about an hours labour to fit, bit of a bugger, I just got it fitted when I got it mapped, can't quite remember what the total was.
Although the sound improved, what made the biggest difference was removing the mid pipe, doesn't sound miles of a decat plus its legal

LSD is worth doing although does leave a dent in your wallet lol
I went stage 2 recently. All you need is a sports cat and the relevant software. I’ve been running MHD Stage 1 for the last 2 years and just bought my VRSF cat so bought the stage 2 map and just uploaded it myself. The Cat was £400 new with a bit of messaging to the seller and MHD is also about £400.
MHD support the B58 and so far (well since it can now run on
iOS) they have been flawless.
