My new place has terrible phone/4G signal, so I've got WiFi calling enabled on my (Vodafone) iPhone. I have pretty good internet here (50mbps) and I'm very near the router, but I just made a call and could barely hear what he was saying.

Anyone else find WiFi calling this poor, or was I just unlucky?

It has actually just occurred to me that even though I called an 0800 number it could have been routed to the guy's mobile and maybe he had terrible signal as he was out on a job......hmmmmm.......

I have 350mb download and my WiFi Calling is complete rubbish. The Sure Signal isn't much better either......

It make me laugh when I hear about people wanting 5G. I would be happy with 1 bar of signal hehe

I'm on 3 and use wifi calling all the time at home and in the local pub with very few issues.

My wife the same but on O2. Only difference is I get SMS via WIFI calling, she doesn't.

Speed at home is about 35Mb, pub will be about the same but far more users at times!!

ETA both are iPhones

Problem I find is that if you have any mobile signal at all, the phone wants to use that and it’s crap. No signal at all and it goes via WiFi and works perfectly. That’s EE

Another Vodafone user here on iPhone - I use Wi-Fi calling in my garden office and we have a SureSignal in the house. Both work fine most of the time, no issues. I would try a few other test calls as I don't have any issues. I do have to say, on the volume front - try a WhatsApp call and see if there is any difference, seems a bit louder for me.

I turned it off. I have a decent EE signal at home but the phone kept switching over to wifi anyway. The call quality was fine, but it would drop the call if you left home or walked down the garden and out of wifi range. I turn it on if I'm visiting somewhere with no EE signal, but it was a pain at home.

Hmmmm I wonder if I try flight mode at home when making a call so it doesn’t try and use my one bar of signal

Nailed it.

Mine used to be ok until an update rendered it useless as I get 1 bar, which as per latest logic, dictates I don't need WiFi calling. Just at EE 3rd line support told me this. He suggested I use IFTTT to enable flight mode and WiFi calling when at home.

Interesting... I don't have any issue at present but will remember to give it a try if I do. I do have limited mobile signal on our property but also have wifi all over (glamping site so quite large) and haven't had any issues so far switching between the two.

I wonder how the different service providers implement it? As said above 3 and O2 implement SMS differently, I wonder if service providers implement mobile/wifi handover differently?

I'm with Bt and the indoor signal was so bad that I was missing 2FA texts, which made dealing with the bank and Paypal almost impossible.

After a few complaints, BT have given me a signal booster for home. Full signal indoors now.
