OK - it doesn't have an Aston Martin engine, so won't appeal to all
, but anyway, I'll just leave this here ...

I spoke to Mark this morning, he's a racing buddy and I think it was eye opening for him what current road cars are like. He's quite keen on the DBSS now. When he retires from racing, he says...
I thought it was an interesting video, and a rare meeting of the two worlds, that I'm lucky to be part of both. The car itself is quite a good story, and what might have been had Al and his then missus not split up when Aston first greenlit it.
Back then, car makers were into doing daft projects for PR. Remember the Renault F1 Espace, after Ford did an F1 Transit. More recently, MG got involved and in a similar fashion, the project fell by the wayside on the corporate front, but the car still made it to the track sometime later.
It's good that the car is still around as the majority of equipment raced in the UK is American body derived muscle cars.
Be them road legal or not, the moment you're running quicker than 9.99, it's simply not possible to keep the original architecture or power train as the factory intended, for both performance and safety regulations. In Street Eliminator, if you're not running in the mid to low 7 second range, you're not competitive. For reference, the DBSS ordinarily runs 11.7 at around 130mph.
I'd highly recommend a trip to Santa Pod next year, it's an eye opening experience, and the relatively unhinged nature of some of the kit makes something like a Valkyrie appear to be a bit of a pussy cat.
(there's also my Corvette, which is similarly, more of a silhouette and very much not road legal, but an accurate recreation of the same car raced in period).

The Aston is cool, but I think the GTO was a way better Hot rod...

wow
Brilliant video - so very refreshing to hear somebody passionate about something that is probably the best at what it does, but he is almost embarrassed to talk about it.
thanks !
