CCTV playback problem

I have a 4 camera cctv security system with hardwired cameras.
The situation is this, that although all 4 cameras show real time on multi camera display only one camera will display when trying to view multi camera playback.
Camera 1 will always display on playback, but cameras 2-3-4 only show black screens unless the corresponding camera area of the monitor display is activated and then that camera will display but no other will.
Initialy late last month only one camera failed to display on playback, so i rebooted thinking that would solve the problem, it did solve the problem for a week or so and then the non display has occurred again with loss of three cameras on playback
Has anyone had a similar experience or can advise me on the above, i should say it is not connected to the internet or home computer.
