Just booked my chim 500 in for an exhaust mod.
The specialist's are 'Longlife' in Cardiff, we plan to remove the centre silencer unit, and replace with either a single stainless 'resonator' or twin units. These also come with a lifetime warranty.
We discussed the 'cut and pipe' option wich regulary appear on this forum, but on the advice on longlife, they rekon we can achieve a deeper note, whilst also getting the pops & crackles! that most on here so desire!
I have used Longlife on my previous cars, (RX-7) (SLK) and found the quality of workmanship to be excellent. also the choice of silencers / resonators / tailpipes is amazing! I dont want to mod the standard TVR pipes as I like the look of the originals. Going to be an interesting mod, and I'm looking forward to the results! They estimate the job to take 4-5 hours, with custom piping / resonator(s).
estimated cost: no more than £300.
I know this might sound expensive as compared with the cut'n shut option, but there will be a new polished stainless centre piece! although no one will see it!
just curious if any other's have had a similar mod???
will try and post the result after the mod!

I just had my silencer removed last week and very pleased - a real deep growl now at tickover which grows to a fantastic sound as the revs rise!
There is a little bit of crackling and popping going on now, but I havent mastered how to induce it yet - best keep practising, eh!
Be prepared for even more heads turning as you approach - just how a V8 should sound...

I would be interested to hear how you find the 'Longlife' Mods, I have a '98 450 Chim. I am keen to do the same sort of thing and was considering using Powerflow, who I have used on previous cars as well? If you have any pics you could post and feedback after the work is complete that would be great!
