Lots of words have been said either praising the GTD, or knocking it as a false GTI.
But no one has spoken about a modified GTD and done a GTI comparison. Now obviously a nippy diesel is a different driving technique to driving a petrol engines cecar, but my sensibly tuned GTD is no slouch either in outright performance or in handling and I still get 48-50 to the gallon.

The engine has been mapped by Celtic to 226 bhp and 356 ft lbs of Torque. The standard springs have been upgraded, but ordinal shocks retained, and I have rear wheel spacers to help keep everything together when pushing hard around corners.

Whilst I won't be able to roar past a GTI, it will take a good one to leave me behind.

Had anyone else out there done similar mods to their GTD

No, but I’d be interested in a readers cars feature on it.

My commute has just gone from seven to 35 miles and they ain’t good roads, if my current car is now to expensive ( petrol ) I may look at these.

I'd be happy for my GTD to be assessed

I used to run a MK2 Leon FR PD170 at Stage 2 circa 230bhp from 170. Was good fun.

I now have a MK1 Leon FR+ PD150 running circa 200bhp it does as a daily.

Problem comparing a tuned GTD to a GTI is you can also tune the GTI.

Indeed you can tune a GTI, but where do you stop. A mild tune on the GTD gives GTI performance with 50 mpg plus £20 road tax- what a deal!!

I have an A3 2.0 Tdi Quattro it’s 170bhp but the previous owner told me it was mapped to 205bhp. I have no proof of this.

I am guessing it is quite similar to a GTD? I do like the look of the GTD and when it becomes time to change my A3 I will probably look at them. However just my experience of my A3 I can’t see how a 4 pit diesel can be anyway fun. Loved to be proved wrong though.

Probably the same as saying a Golf R is the only car you will ever need.
I do get the diesel thing, what's not to like about £20 tax and 50 mpg.
