You need to go into this trailer totally blind but if you want to make a movie as clearly deranged as this then probably the best man to put in it is Mel Gibson. Could be by the end of the year this will be the movie we all need.

Has anyone watched this? My children (girls 9&10) have nominated it as their Christmas Day movie!!

From the trailer it is clearly a particularly twisted choice for two young girls and their mother is guaranteed to kick right off. So in many ways I am proud of them.

I don't mind them seeing gratuitous violence or hearing terrible language. We live in the Cotswolds after all. wink. However, being a prude and obviously a good and competent father, what I wish to avoid is any heavy petting. Is there anything gratuitous in that regard?

Many thanks.

The reviews I saw were various comments about it not being appropriate for 2020, which I took as a good sign.

Well the football was dull so I watched it tonight. And it ain’t half bad! smile

Clearly a small budget but it’s spent wisely. Bonkers story but everyone totally commits. For such a ridiculous pitch the standard of acting including from the bratty kid is pretty high. And let’s face it, nobody does arse kicking grumpy old bd quite like Mel. Some good jokes too.

Bad points? Not much. As mentioned the lack of budget does show and you wonder what they could have done with a little bit more cash. And as far as kids are concerned it’s possibly a little violent but no more than a Call Of Duty session. But what I would say is the state of one character at the end might be responsible for a few nightmares!

Basically, it’s as bonkers and as fun as it looks in the trailer. Perfect brain in neutral fun for an early Christmas treat.

8/10. Recommended. thumbup

This look like a pg. I remember watching things like Mad Max, The Terminator, Robocop etc as a child. Is this what society has come to these days?

It’s actually a 15.

It’s put me in a good mood tonight & takes a lot for something to do that for The Toad at the moment

Much appreciated. It's quite interesting at the moment how many films are being released that have been done on the limited capital available at the moment while there is zero cinema revenue for investors to gamble on, while Covid compliance costs are high etc.

I suspect some of these pivotal actors are doing these jobs just for expenses so that bits of the industry can keep ticking over and there are some jobs for the backnoffice and junior front office workers.

The formula seems to be: brand new production company, a single halo star clearly not working for the normal fee, a single location to remove those costs and using a cheap location in the first instance, typically away from civilisation etc.

You can see with some of them that even if the script is weak or a rehash of what's gone before there are some top behind the scenes workers involved.

2020 is definitely the year that the industry looked to the Steven Seagull School of Movie Making for a way forward.

How violent is that single scene that you mention? Or could you give me a crude idea as to how far in it is so I can speed through and check myself. My girls are pretty good with that sort of thing but it's probably worth checking.

Watched this one with my 12 year old daughter and we both enjoyed it a lot. Refreshingly different, a bit silly and not overly violent. As already said, it's on a par with your average first person shooter game these days and most of that happens towards the end.

I think the covid/limited capital issue could turn out to be a positive thing for movies and trigger some renewed creativity. I prefer to watch things like this than forgettable, big budget eye candy...

Thanks. It should be that Covid generates a lot of creativity. I think what we are seeing at the moment is preexisting projects getting reworked and patched to fit the streaming content budget and the content shortfall being experienced by those platforms but in gestation will be clean ideas created from the ground up to be viable and high quality while fitting in to the new environment. Hopefully it won't just be CGI remakes of the Vagina Monologues. biggrin

It's towards the end. Basically because Santa is immortal when he goes to find the obnoxious little kid he is very, very messed up from having been stabbed through the chest and shot in the head plus Mel is giving it his full on mentalist acting method. Scariest Santa ever!

Also the bit about half way through where one 12 year old kid is threatening to torture a 12 year old girl with an arc welder is probably what got it the 15 rating.

Enjoy! smile

Great suggestion. Only £0.99 to rent too. Shame the "other half" doesn't watch films in subtitles. I'll have to watch it alone...
