Old People were DENIED potentially life saving treatment
Discussion
People retire at 66 these days.
By old people they mean, 60 and over.
I'm getting there.
We have the care home scandal and now this.
If the plan was to remove most that were over 60, i guess the country
wuold save hundreds of billions via pensions not being needed
and costly hosptial and residential costs and free up housing.
Is this incompetence or what.
The story states that this scenario was applied to all NHS trusts
even those that had just a few Covid patients seriously ill.
Not sure if it's true but if anyone works for the NHS, I'd like to
hear from you.

Wasn’t this all based on Shagger Ferguson’s forecasts of hundreds of thousands dying, therefore restricting treatment to those most likely to survive?
Possibly but when you you have no pressure, disallowing potentially life saving treatments is imo close to neglect on a fundamentally and morally bankrupt scale.
As a matter of fact I was told point blank in an appointment with my Cardiologist that If I got covid I may as well call a funeral director as an ambulance, because I was too old to be considered for a ventilator.
She was not being nasty in any way, but explaining the fact that the limited number of equipment and beds was to be used for those with the best chance of survival an that did not count the old with medical problems.
Just being put on a ventilator is a major trauma in itself and risky at the best of times, tying them up with people who have little or no chance of recovery during an expected excessive demand period is common sense in the cold light of day.

yes it is patently true, the Goic f
ked up again, will go down in history as the worst government ever run by a team of ineptitudes.
Yes old people got turned away, with empty beds in critical units. Old people died at home because of lack of service.
The NHS never ended up plastered over the news with people dying in it over run, it was all hidden away. The NHS never failed, the Tory party came out clen, lots of innocent people needlessly died. The Rich got richer and yet again the poorer, got killed.

I’m surprised you’re surprised to be honest. In the early days of covid there will have been all sorts of conversations and maths and tools created. The Swedes, the gold-standard of covid response apparently, openly discussed with the Finns whether closing their schools was ‘worth’ the 10% reduction in cases for oldies.. doesn’t mean they acted on it.

I thought everyone already knew this? Along with rushing to get DNRs etc issued. It was almost like a deliberate plan to kill off the elderly... Then chuck a few into care homes and oh look care homes suffer huge deaths...
Likewise. Is this really news to people? Sadly I am so badly jaded by the moral bankruptcy of this government, that my biggest take away from the article is the clear pinning of it on Whitty. This will be no accident, so I am intrigued at the political strategy behind it.
Ben, it is news to me, hence my post.
Should we not be outraged???
FFS, will it be 50 year olds next then 40 just like some work places???
They had the meds, they knew that on the whole those under 40
were noting coming into hospital so the clowns should have revised their
secret criteria.
it is disgusting.
My mum-in-law stayed in hospitl for a couple of weeks about 10 years ago when she was in her late 60's. Normally
a very, mentally able person with round after round of ashtma/severe, diabetes and urine infections she was not herself -
twice we found her in her bed soaking wet with urine when her continence pads had not been changed for f know how many hours.
We all worked and always went after work got their 5pm-ish and helped to feed her - her son when on nights went for about 1p and then we or her kids went for the 7pm visit and her daughters showered her daily to reduce the burden on staff but it was disgusting.
We were polite with our complaints then took it to the top and care inprove when two of the nurses where changed or off shift.
Sadly, even some hospital staff think ig you are 60, too bad. For sure the youngsters have life ahead of them and if the choice was to save a 16 year old v a 60 year old we all know the answer but this fiasco.
I am easily led and reports of the gov wanting to kill older people eg care homes etc i though bS - but now I think they was a unconcious plan there and is to finnish off those close to 60 and over.

It’s all very distasteful but if you’re a 60 year old with covid, and a 40 year old with covid comes in and needs intubating and there’s no spare capacity, then you, as a 60 year old, will be bounced out of the way. If you’re 80, you’re f
ked. That’s rationing in the NHS and it’s always been like that, and it’s getting progressively worse. It’s a government failure.

Many of my fathers' generation didn't live beyond 70 and I will be thankful if I stay healthy and still able to enjoy life after that age, and modern drugs will probably keep me alive for long after that!
FWIW, life is for living not sat in a chair s
tting your pants while you wait the inevitable call, and that applies whatever age you are!essayer said:
I get all the triaging etc but we literally set up all those Nightingales and they stood more or less empty- why couldn’t the sick be sent there? Even if it was ‘second tier’ care, might have saved a significant amount of those who were seemingly just sent home to die?
Exactly. This is negligence at best, IMO.car2021 said:

Documents drawn up at the request of Chris Whitty, England’s chief medical officer, devised guidelines — called a “triage tool” — which were later used to prevent many elderly Covid-19 patients from receiving ventilation in intensive care. One of the documents advised medics that anyone over the age of 80 should be excluded.''

yes but we live and die, the difference is the Tory government implemented a policy that allowed older people to die, directly related to a policy, not a few hundred, in the region of 10s of thousands. Many of my fathers' generation didn't live beyond 70 and I will be thankful if I stay healthy and still able to enjoy life after that age, and modern drugs will probably keep me alive for long after that!
