More likely illegal immigrants/stowaways have been found and have kicked off.

No one would try and seize a tanker that close to Portsmouth. We even have an aircraft carrier there!

Will cost a fortune sorting it. I hope they are sent to prison before being sent back.

Why couldn't it be a potential terrorist attack, hijack the ship close to port and blow it up or something while entering?

Stowaways hijacking the ship isn't entirely new. Where were they hiding? in the oil tanks?

Just got this off of an RN site:

Adventures off the Isle of Wight - Nava Andromeda a Nigerian oil tanker has had a five-mile safety zone placed around it as Coast guard and other agencies are reported to have boarded the vessel believed to have a number of stowaways on board, and the crew locked in a safe place "Probably the bridge"
Helicopters left the scene reportedly to re-fuel and returned onsite. I would assume that fuel is more of the SBS sort rather than ESSO - The plot continues but unfortunately, we may never know the full story as unlike the SAS "Army" The SBS "Royal Marines" do the job and move on without stopping to write a book about it or a TV series.

Bob Geldof is en-route as we speak.

More seriously, why isn't this dealt with in 5 mins with the Marines or other forces? Don't they train for this st and now it's literally 5 miles off the coast. Even if they are immigrants with nothing more than an old baguette and kitchen knife to fight with, still be fun for the boys to go and say hello you would have thought.

FWIW, this would have been heading to Southampton port and not Portsmouth.
So far it's still a police/coastguard matter despite some of the more excitable remarks on Twitter.
