VanVan 125 - anyone got any advice....
Discussion
Nothing to add really but how does it work if you already have an auto licence and want to do gears?
Do you have to do a cbt again, theory and obs mods 1 and 2 on a geared bike?
If you get a vanvan do you have to put L plates on it?
I parked my bike next to a guy at work who had one. They are quite cool and apparently you can get a larger cc version? 200cc. Lovely big seat.

With regard to licence, car licence makes no difference now , must do CBT to ride a 125 . Pre 2001 car licence holders can ride a 50cc with no L plates but that is all.
DAS will need CBT , theory, Mod1 and Mod 2.
As for a proper 125 take a look at a Honda CB125R My wife has one and is doing Mod1 this week.

If the requirements are "manual, 125, wife likes the look, must last up to a year or two" - is it worth looking at some of the Chinese bikes like Mash/herald and similar? They do a lot of pretty, retro bikes. Ok, you can expect some of the fasteners to go a bit rusty, etc, but for what you need it for, they might be worth looking at.
I had a VV125 for about a year before passing the big bike test. Good little machine on the flat, v comfy too. Light to pick up. Great fun on twisty back roads but I didn’t like it as much out on nationals. Braking a bit meh so plan ahead.
I rode a mates VV200 recently - much, much zippier on faster roads. 200s hold their value very well, always strong demand for them.

The new Enfields are nothing like the old ones, in the best way. That 650 twin engine is a peach. Gutted I had to cancel my order to buy a house. The new bullets (post 2009 I think) look good too, but I've never ridden one.And Bonneville Scrambler:-
Our Maud learned to ride on an RV125.
Great bike. Very funky. And the brown ones are the funkiest.
Nice comfy saddle. Wide bars make it a doddle to handle. Feels bigger than most learner bikes.
On the down side, it was slow, even for a 125. The chain is made from knicker elastic and will need frequent adjusting and regular replacement. Lack of a centre stand doesn't make that task as easy as it should be.
It also suffers from Suzuki's "add water, use once and discard" approach to the durability of fasteners and the finish of the exhaust and engine cases. That said, it was used in all weathers in Southport, so was exposed to plenty of salt and water.
She liked it so much that she thought about keeping it after passing her test.
She now has a GR650, which feels like a big RV125 and has the same wide bars, big saddle and fat rear wheel.

I wouldn't worry too much about 4 speed vs 5. If I was buying an MSX, I would buy a 2020 4 speed as they've truly f***** up the styling on the 2021, looks like a Duplo block.
My 2013 MSX125 only had 4 gears but it obviously wasn't an issue as, until recently, i was convinced it had 5.
