My son tells me he’d like a PS5 for Xmas. I see they’re sold out everywhere. Before I start to look at alternatives what’s the thoughts about there any likelihood of them being back in stock before Xmas?

Are they even out yet?

They’re not out till November and I’m hoping once the rush is over of getting them on release date they’ll be available as I’m say as you. My son wants one but unable to order one anywhere.

I'm in the same boat and remain confident once it's released next month, there will be plenty of availability in the run up to Christmas.

Release day is the 19th November. No one seems to know if stores will get stock, when or how many.

There were reports that Sony were aiming for anything between 6m and 12m units before April, even if the reports are accurate how many of those will be available this year and/or in the UK is anyones guess.

I did see somewhere that Tesco were not going to sell them over the counter on release day - pickup for pre-orders only, I believe this is due to not wanting lots of people/queues etc.

I would assume that some supermarkets will have a few units after the release day rush..

A bit more expensive I can cope with but they’re £550 plus at the moment on eBay. I guess these are the hardcore people who want it on launch day, but I’m not falling into that category so I’ll wait and hope that someone gets stock before Xmas.

This is the same as it was for the PS4 and 3 before it.

Sell out “limited” preorders ... then flood the market for Christmas - Sony won’t miss this trick it’s their one opportunity a year to make massive sales.

Although to be fair with the Ps4 there was very little stock around for Christmas and the scalpers were selling them on ebay for high prices.

It was in to the new year when stock was regularly available. I've not seen any information on if, when and how much stock retailers will get this year.

Also completely unhelpful.

OP: Your best bet may be to actually try some local stores on release day. It may be the case that the likes of GAME, etc may have some store stock on top of what they've sold out of online.

The Boy (and I) want one as well. No requirement for release day but his birthday is end of November or we are looking at xmas.Once the nutters have paid over the odds things will level out and maybe even bundles will be available at Christmas. An artificial scarcity at xmas will just piss people off.

I can understand Sony purposely creating limited supply on their pre order date, to create excitement and publicity, but to not have sufficient stock between launch day and Xmas would be mad. There will be hundreds of thousands of people wanting to buy them for Xmas, so they would be losing money if they don't have sufficient stocks. Plus they must know that they will sell, so it's not as though they would have surplus stocks on their hands.

They'll be stock nearer to Christmas. Imagine if there isn't but Xbox has millions of their console available, people will just buy them instead, Sony would be committing suicide.

Or both will be low on stock, and speculators will be buying them all up for resale at a silly price.

Some stores in the US have confirmed there will be stock on release date so I'm guessing it will be the same here.
However with Covid going on not like you will be able to line up before opening time at places or if you can how it will work.

Try and contact a local Game/Smyths store or other retailers and ask if they will have any stock or make your way down to a shop in a smaller town where hopefully you will have more chance of bagging one on release date.

I don't think that they will limit stock from release day onwards, its a question of logistics and getting stuff shipped. Its already been reported that they were using air freight to get stock across the world rather than just relying on shipments by sea.

I don't know, but assume that the later release date in Europe is mostly due to logistics than anything else.

Edited to add: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-sony-playstatio...

Sony say they've seen "very considerable demand" for the PS5. First 12 hours of pre orders in the states matched the first 12 weeks for the PS4.
