Been looking at buying a late 2015 5k imac, they can be had for £800-900, is this wise in terms of reliability?
Is their anything i need to look out for?..

Not a mac person, so a pointless answer, other than to say; either

a. wind up

b. you mac people need a sense check - £1000 on a 5 year old lump of electronics and a computer at that - wow!

What’s the right price then? If you are design work then a 5k Mac is one of the better tools of the trade.

I assume you’re looking at the 27”

Colour bleed at the bottom of the screen ... it’s like a yellowing and quite common but some are much worse than others.

I was looking at similar age / price but decided that 12mths interest free on a new one was a better option.

I wouldn’t worry about the lower ram levels this is an easy upgrade and not expensive from OWC (and their U.K. outlet).

I would go for one with the upgraded graphics though if I was going for a 2015.

And clearly no idea on the frame of reference ... a 2015 5k 27” iMac is better than many “new” cheaper pcs available

Nope, thankfully I've no idea of the requirements of 'design work'.

But £1000 on 5 year old secondhand electronics would worry me.

If refurbished come with a warranty crack on, otherwise pay your money and take your choice....

Better is a metric with many dimensions

Faster?

More electronically reliable?

Nicer to use?

More flexible?

Likely longer OS support?

Black Magic Design (video software and hardware) sell a separate tower that contains graphic cards so that iMac users need not be left behind.
