On that point, and onto the Another anti-EU rant, I'm afraid. The length of the legal process in many European countries, especially the southern ones seems totally out of kilter with what is reasonable and is one of the reasons that a political union of such diverse countries is not a good idea. Amanda Knox was incarcerated for years prior to her conviction. The captain of the Greek cruise ship which over turned was similarly in jail for years before he was tried. When the trial does take place it seems to drag for months and sometimes years. I think that in the case of Amanda Knox that there would be a day in court, well a few hours, some people would say something and they'd adjourn for a week or so. Once the summer hols came around it would stop for six or eight weeks. How is this possibly compatible with Article 6? How can you justify stopping a trial for two months simply because the judiciary want to go on their holidays?
