Camtune Track Day Goodwood and GT2 handling
Discussion
Hi Guys
Is anyone planning on going to the Camtune organised trackday at Goodwood this Thurs??
I am really keen to meet up with anyone who has a GT3 RS as am really keen to go out on track to try and get my head around whether I am happy with my GT2 or not.
Before everyone says I am mad I am just trying to get a good comparison as far as handling and general driveability goes, I miss having the higher rev range of a non turbo and the flexibility that offers, have been tweaking around with the geometry and have added 0.8 degrees neg camber to the front and hardened rear roll bar and softened the front roll bar, this is all in a bid to dial out cronic understeer, it now seems we have gone to far as car seems very unstable at 130 plus so will try going back a bit on the settings. I still need to swap to P Zeros but at the mo am getting what I can out of the current tyres.
Thurs looks to be a good day with Richard Attwood and Bernard Aubrey on hand to lend some expert advice so am looking forward to expanding the knowledge base.

Mike,
I'm surprised by your comment on understeer. Although I know it is very much there, I am learning that it is quite easy to 'override' it with the throttle. I'm by no means an expert on tracking but on tight bends (certainly round bedford) i was getting quite good (said cautiously) at getting the balance right to just hint at oversteer. its a very communicative car. maybe your expectation is much higher than mine, but understeer is not a problem i cannot overcome withoout difficulty.
funnily enough i took a gt3rs for a test drive a few weeks back, and i did find the steering much more direct and go-karty. after a post on this forum i was informed about all this negative camber stuff. there's an autocar / porsche trackday on the 22 july i think where porsche are brigning their own cars. if you can get to it, there'll probably be a good chance you could test drive a gt3rs round a track....

aah you see this is where I obviously need some help and advice on the throttle control, what do you find is helping best to lose the understeer?
The typical approach would be some trail braking into the corner. Why not go on one of the fasttrak days and get Steve Rance etc. to show you what its all about?
Or maybe some driver training on an airfield where it can all be shown to you in safety without any pressure from other track users.
Remember any car can understeer if you induce it!

this is the point where i now embarrass myself by giving a vague answer.
i can't quite remember what i was doing other than playing around with the throttle (on/off with various degrees of aggression) and seeing what happened. it seemed to work though because as i became more cocky and confident with ironing out understerr / getting some oversteer i span out quite nicely.
i'm hoping to refine this art on my next trackday on the 9th.
i have a good video of tiff needell getting sideways in a gt2 (my gt2 infact!), so perhaps you should ask him!
For turn in understeer you need to either take less speed into the corner or engineer weight transfer to the front with a bit of trail braking. Exit oversteer you can induce with the throttle, but obviously its not going to cure lack of turn in!
How about doing a Don Palmer day, or carlimits day to get shown it all in great detail?

excellent, i look forward to seeing you there and hopefully picking up some tips,
dan do you have weblinks for those 2 recommends?

Both have slightly different techniques of teaching but both are very good.
Mike,
I take it all is not roses with the GT2 at the mo? I'm also seriously interested in more Porsche focussed driver training, since the Noble always seemed to have less 'engineered in' understeer, quite the opposite in fact. I've spoken to Parr, and their most lightly track orientated setup seems perfect for me.
Sadly I've hurt my arm so it will be a few weeks before I'm on track. But when I am I hope to see you out there again.
