PH: Pumpkins matter - show us yours

We can’t go Trick-or-treating, but we can still carve pumpkins. Show us yours, he’s one I made earlier. Can’t decide if I like it with the eyes or not...

Good efforts so far though! The Monsters Inc one and the one from Genuine Barn Find with the teeth are great! The Mrs did a Tinkerbell last year but we went pumpkin picking on Monday with the kids and as its pouring down tomorrow we're carving them then.

Kids will love it.

When I was young it was a turnip that got carved up for Halloween.

Smelled bloody awful with a candle burning inside it

Turnips, too, when I were a lad (maybe it was a northern thing?). And yes, they bloody stank with a candle inside. Plus, they were a tough as hell, and you were lucky if the knife didn't slip whilst you carved into the granite-like surface. Funnily enough, I don't remember the switch to pumpkins.

Looking forward to taking the grandkids trick or treating this year round the local village.

This year instead of asking for sweets I’ll be handing out some of my farm produce.

My dad used to use a drill with a wire wheel attachment to hollow turnips out for me and my sister back in the 80s/early 90s. Pumpkins were available but mega money in comparison to turnips (or narkeys as we called them in Sunderland)
