I've tried to research this, but find conflicting answers. As I understand it:
If you buy your own electric scooter you can only use it on private property.
But
Some UK cities can hire them out for public use. If the public use these MUST they be used on the road, or is cycle track and pavement use permitted?
We've suddenly got a blight of these blessed things strewn about Nottingham.

TaThe first half was pre the current regs, then I couldn't find the answer in the remainder.
It is a shame that the majority of our road system is not designed to accommodate bicycles, scooters to separate them from pedestrians and other traffic. This shared use by people, vehicles, bikes/scooters leads to conflict due to intolerance and bad behaviour( from all users). Simply adding extra options without serious provision for segregating them is going to create issues.

Bristol has started it's year long trial today. You can rent a scooter for £1.00 unlock fee and £0.20 per minute. It remains to see if the scooters survive.

We are in a ‘trial period’ of rental scooters before the government legalise them for private ownership.
We get them being used in the public park in Newark (Notts). Usually by kids.
But cycling is permitted in the park, and I suspect that horse riding is too.
And there is a road through part of the park, leading to a couple of houses that are in the park.
That road's a favourite of the fishing fraternity, as it reduces the distance they have to carry/drag the garage full of tackle that they seem to need to hook a bream.
